M20? You Lucky bugger. I have to choose either the M4 or the M40, then M25, or rail via Marylebone or Paddington. Then I have to choose Thornton Heath or Norwood Junction.

Two to three hours each way for me. Every single match!

You're a better man than me then, sod that

I sometimes go the train up to Bromley and jump in my mates car for a rest from driving as I drive for a living, but quite often there's engineering works so I have to drive!!

the only time I miss living in south norwood when palace are at home!!

I first watched Palace in 1953; for personal reasons I was only an occasional visitor for much of the 70s and 80s; but I have been almost ever-present for the past 30 years and a season ticket holder for about 20.

For what it's worth, I have no wish to see Sam go (ridiculous suggestion), and I guess that we'll stay up.

But rather than looking forward to games, I now almost dread them. Over the years we've all known what it's like to come out of Selhurst Park fed up and bad tempered (many, many times), but within a couple of days we feel up for it again. No longer true. I didn't want to go to the Swansea game, and the first half that day absolutely sickened me. Yesterday was another kick in the guts and next Saturday is already looming like a big black cloud.

Some may accuse me of disloyalty and having a weak stomach, but despite all the Palace disappointments I've suffered over 60 years, I've never felt the sadness and disconnection with the club that I feel now. But I'll be there next Saturday.

Wow 1953...you are an old fart,im still a youngen been going to SP since 1961/2 season.

I know where your coming from but hey this is Palace,we have both seen some complete shyte over the years but when its been good its bloody fantastic. At the moment its shyte...it will get better (dunno when tho )

Personally I cant stand this Premier league but its where we have to be I suppose and I think we have lost our identity ( whatever that means).

I am a home and away season ticket holder, been to every ground in the Prem and I still love our shyte hole of a ground..its our shytehole...West Hams new ground is awful, hope we dont go down that road.

My first game was 1964. I moved away from London in 1976. I have missed far too much since. Now when I get down to games, I can't contain my excitement. I absolutely love it. It's just fabulous to be there. I envy those who can go to every game. And yes, the game can be dire, but the joy of being there is a thrill. You see, it's love. Not every consummation makes the earth move, but being together is what matters. And with Palace you have to learn to take the rough with the ... er ... rough.

I love going to Selhurst Park - I always go with hope.
I sometimes leave in despair and other times as happy as anything.
I will enjoy goping tonight - just hope I leave happy!

I suspect that this thread is now on its last legs, so it's time for me to admit to an unintentional fib. I started the OP by saying I'd first watched Palace in 1953. It was against Colchester United (0-1 defeat), but, having checked the records, I see that I was 2 days out - it was on 2nd January 1954.

Having read all the posts, I feel marginally less gloomy - or, to be more accurate, just as gloomy, but more philosophical.

This ^^ mostly.

I just love being at Selhurst Park - it feels like 'home' to me and, like any other home, it is where I have experienced some of my best and worst moments. I still always have that little bit of hope or anticipation for something - whether it be a win, not losing, a certain player score etc. Tonight I am looking forward to seeing Remy play in red n blue as I've been unable to make the games he's appeared in so far. A goal or two from him would be a bonus.

As SA has said, this is a chance for fringe players to stake a claim to their place in the squad/team so I'm also hoping to see some real passion/application/fight.

Will this be five? It's gonna be five! It IS five!

I would LOVE to go to Selhurst again - but I have Parkinson's and Arthritis in my knee joints and live in Bristol.

My first visit to Selhurst was 1963 as a 9 year old.

I have always been excited about every match I attended and never felt any dread.

The last match I saw and felt the team had let us down was a 1-0 home defeat to Br1-3ton on a Tuesday night under Dowie... it p1ssed down with rain on the way home and I got soaked. Didn't stop me getting up for our next match though!

Those of you oldies who are able bodied, and are still going to watch Palace home and/or away should cherish every moment... you don't know when it will all be taken away from you.

Watching your team on the TV at home is not the same as watching them live.

This is so so true.. my mum is in similarly bad health hoof. I am taking her to the Sunderland game next month. Managed to seat swap for an aisle seat right near the back of the aw in order to get her easily into the ground. Depending how she finds the experience physically this could well be the last time we go together. She took me to my first games as a child. I now take my son's . Never ever regret something which once made you happy. You never know when it will be over
