I'm not to keen on the idea of signing him, he is quality going forward but in my opinion he is dreadful defensively, I don't think a fullback like that will benefit us in our current situation

I'm all about watching players beyond statistics. I only talk about players I've watched.

But when you have a debate about who is better offensively, van Aanholt o Souare and the first has provided like 12 assists while the latter only 1 in a similar amount of time, then it's just normal to shove the statistics down the throat of the one who is still blind.

I mean it's not a 3 to 1 or 6 to 1 or even 10 to 1 difference.
It's 12 to 1 in favour of van Aanholt.

You have to take Pardew into account, for one thing. You also have to realise that a lot of Souare's crosses were into penalty areas devoid of strikers.

Why devoid of strikers?
Gayle is one of the best strikers I've seen. Adebayor is not that bad. Connor Wickham is average.

It's not their fault that Souare can't cross.

Adebayor...really?

Putting in crosses was never Souare's primary role, although I've seen some decent ones from him; that was Bolasie's job. Although not universally lauded on here when he was playing, the defence went completely to pieces without him, so he must have been doing something right.

You make up arguments

Does "almost Soare-esque great going forward" not mean that Souare is greater??

I would respectfully suggest it is a comparison of playing style rather than a direct comparison in ability.

Indeed, which I explained to him before but he chooses to ignore

I honestly don;t see the difference between playing style and ability when you use the term "going forward".
The playing style and the ability to go forward are one and the same in this context

I seem to remember the net Palace population of the box on most of these occasions being Campbell. Pardew didn't use Gayle properly, Wickham has had spells of injury (and a ban, last season) and Adebayor didn't live up to expectations.

So would you accept van Aanholt as a replacement for Souare in the circumstances? I would. Does that mean Souare is no good? Obviously not.

In any case we're missing the point here that however good or not Souare was last season there's no guarantee he'll ever be up to Premiership football after his injury. In the context of that any comparison between his performances last season and those of any other player are to a degree academic. And some of you mentioning no names should be showing him a bit more respect because he has been a valuable member of the squad and he is lucky to be alive. HTH.

Because you claim that I was saying Souare is better when clearly I wasn't. You are wrong, you either misunderstood or too wrapped up in your argument. Either way just unwilling to admit you got it wrong

At the risk of repeating myself again and sounding like a frigging Parrot, I haven't seen enough of van Aanholt to comment on his ability in any depth which is why I quoted a Sunderland supporting friend re his consistency.

By that logic we should be content to play Fryers there all the time. Sorted.
