fed up eagle Between Horley, Surrey and Preston... 04 Dec 16 3.42pm | |

Yeah we were not great yesterday, but we won and kept a clean sheet, that's the main thing. Hopefully we can now go on a little run due to the confidence gained from yesterdays result because a few weeks from now people will only remember the result, not the performance.

I thought we were ok yesterday. We were understandably a bit more defensive and after going 2-0 up we sat back and didn't take unessessary risks. It was all about the result and we saw the game out well. The worst I've seen is play this season was against West Brom on the opening day. We were also worse against West Ham.

We were f**king terrible at Swansea. Granted we were good going forward, but conceding five goals, four from set pieces. That was our worst performance since shipping four against Fulham under Holloway.

I don't think anyone is giving us enough credit for pressurising Southampton, IMO they turned up and we didn't let them play, Credit to the players for that, No thanks to AP though Originally posted by Brentmiester_General
No we didn't. We were gifted two goals by an absolutely dire Southampton. Let's not dress it up any other way. If Southampton had turned up yesterday we would have rolled over. That win was down to luck not a back to basics solid performance.

the 3 points was much appreciated and we did look a lot more organised at the back but overall i thought it was a poor game and we were poor going forward. other than the 3 goals we had one chance - the Benteke header off target and at times we looked clueless as to how to attack. The players clearly worked on defensive play all week and forgot that you also have to attack. Benteke looked isolated upfront and neither Zaha or Townsend offer much offensively - although both tracked back well. Not once in the 2nd half did either winger go on a run just to ease the pressure - as Sako did when he came on. Considering we have a £30m forward and 2 international wingers i think we should be doing better. So great to get 3 points but lets not get too carried away. Hull is massive next week.

ive been a massive critic, but yesterday certainly wasnt our worst performance. back to basics was better, and suits us much more. we shouldnt get carried away tho. southampton were poor, and we still looked all over the place at set pieces, which is a worry going into future games. benteke was a good move tho, putting him on the front for corners to head out.

Most importantly we got the win ..so our third goal didn't really count and the fact they failed to score was because we blocked and got in the way every time also didn't count, we pressed them in the end and they buckled badly, we didn't all game.

If scoring (first aside) a couple of goals against two of the most sought after CD's in the EPL & keeping them at bay for countless set pieces is our worst performance then I'll take that. Bertrand didn't get a look in either really. We may not have been brilliant but we did everything needed to win that game - even Fergie would've been happy with winning 'ugly'. Maybe Manure & the Bin-dippers will rethink their £20m+ bids for VVD & Fonte come January. Edit: Forgot to mention that we also kept that striker so many wanted us to sign quiet all game. His only contribution was a booking really.
Will this be five? It's gonna be five! It IS five! |

Yes we did win ugly, very ugly in fact. The new style that Pards wants to play wont work because we dont have the defensive players to play that way. It leaves us too open. Havings CBs one left foot and one right foot is more balanced and McArthur wasnt marauding upfield all the time either. Once we change the defenders who are not comfortable with gung ho attacking we will then be ok
