In my opinion AP did deliver today. the team turned up for the first half - an improvement - and suffered more fouls than they inflicted. The match - including the falling over on City players and their time wasting, and taking free kicks from better than offending sites - should be compulsory viewing for all referees. Who knows they might notice when Palace Players are taken down / obstructed. COYP

Agree I think he will get Swansea and Hull away. If we have no points from them, he will have no job. I suspect that is the case, but the board have shown they are willing to be very patient if they think things behind the scenes are going well.

Did anyone else see Benteke hold his lower back about a minute before he was taken off? Does anyone know if he was carrying an injury? Edited by pieceofcake (20 Nov 2016 1.15am)

Benteke was designated to mark Toure at set pieces. The mistake was not reassigning another player to this role or we did and the player assigned forgot. Lee would certainly not have given that job to Lee so some reorganising would have been necessary. It is forgetting some of the simple things that is costing us hugely at the moment.

So who's drilling, in training , the defence that afforded Toure all the space of Selhurst Park ? I don't think it's the drilling itself,as per his post match comments it's more the application and lack of communication on the pitch. Alot of the players looked lost after the changes, arms being waved and instructions not being followed through. At the time I thought he may have lost the dressing room, however looking back on it the players were totally committed to the cause and I think it was more them being simultaneously passionate and frustrated. The only thing I don't get is the taking off of benteke, even pards himself knew what a good job he was doing.Give him until January I think, then re-assess.

I agree with the OP. Why on earth.did we revert back to the same formation and tactics that we had when we were losing. It was a massive cock up by Pardew which cost us the game, despite a decent performance.

If AP wants a new style of football then he should have gone for it and Chung Lee coming on is not the answer.

If Pardew was really trying to protect the point with that substitution, then he should have bought on a defensive-minded player and not a light-weight like Lee, although personally I'd have left well alone at that juncture as we were playing much better. It's inarguable that the substitution of Benteke, quiet or not, removed a headache for the City defence and Toure got rid of his marker.

Easy to say now. Benteke looked like he'd run out gas and had been a passenger for 10 mins. At Burnley, and at home to Liverpool AP was crucified for bring too gung ho. Chungy was fresh legs and he can also help keep the ball a bit. At the time it seemed a fair sub to me. AP isn't faultless in all this, but in this case people are just criticising everything he does. If we kept Benteke on and then conceded, people would have moaned that he hadn't brought on a midfielder to protect the point.

Flamini not fit enough to come on then. Surely his experience would have helped?

For me, that's got to be down to the captain on the pitch. These guys are professionals at the highest level. City had already tried that routine. For the captain to not be switched on enough to sort that out is disappointing.
