and so it begins. doesn't look promising. No CCTV either.

Puts the drivers story that he blacked out in a bit of doubt surely.

Both families of the deceased are attending on mass this Saturday. Tickets have been donated by fellow fans and a box has been arranged, also funded by fans.

If the 2 families support what is planned for Saturday that should be the end of any argument/debate on here.

It's been confirmed that it took the bend at 43mph!

And no equipment failure. Also Sky news still cant get the facts straight. According to their reporter who has been "following" the story, the tram was travelling TOWARDS New Addlington and crashed on a bend near the Sandlands stop. Not asking much after a week to show a bit of respect and get the basics right is it?

Exactly what I thought.

While we have no conclusion yet of what caused it, we will blame a lack of automation.

If there isn't a system in place for that, and it's been in service for a number of years, something else is to blame. It's like getting out of a car with brake assist and then saying it's the car's fault when you crash a different one without it.

Any strike action planned, they always bang on about safety but this reaction on a disaster and given the initial findings is incredible.

True YDG, but,
Its not galling, its a f***ing disgrace.
I'm 15 mins walk from the accident site.
I often go for long walk/runs when I'm slow with work.
my walk today took me past the Sandilands memorial, I forgot & wish I'd diverted.
I felt like a total interloper, ashamed at my presence, as even today families & groups of people, distraught ,were making their way along the addiscombe rd. to the foot of Sandilands.
Seeing that pain up close, as I moved on sharpish, was god awful.
The tribute at Clyde rd is impressive but I'd avoid Sandilands, its too personal.

disgusting more like.

The tram slowed from 50mph to 43.5 on coming out of the tunnel, why didnt it slow any further?

No mechanical faults leaves driver error alone, be that sleep/passing out/alien abduction/texting etc.

Time will tell.

I hate to say it and I am Not justifying or making any excuses. But that driver and many others before him probably regularly speed. Usually they get away with it. That day they didn't. That's all there is too it.

unfortunately, I've a terrible feeling it was a poorly judged bet within some circles of staff to see who could clock up what speeds on certain parts of track.
probably thought it was not possible to roll it.

This has crossed my mind too. Hopefully we're wrong.

I have wondered though and someone may know the answer whether it's actually possible to meet the timetable if you stuck rigidly to the speed Limit on each section of the line. Obviously slow trams, means late , which leads to over crowding and or an effect on profit.
