Surely the poppy has no national or political boundaries. It is a symbol of remembrance for all who have died in war. Now I could be a cynic and start talking about who started the various wars or about some soldiers who went about killing innocent civilians, men women and children but that would rather be a side issue. War makes mean people a lot meaner and turns the peaceful into killers.
I must admit that I don't have quite the same sympathy for professionals as I do conscripts but they do serve the country in ways that most would run away from. Sadly, in most wars the poor soldier is just a pawn in a game of chess using real people and played by the power hungry elite. If I want to wear a poopy then no one is going to stop me but if you wear it as a symbol of nationalism then you have seriously missed the point.

You need to speak to Cucking if that's the case

The poppy isn’t meant to be a political symbol but it is a massively politicised one.

And this obsession over whether footballers where them while they play is anything but traditional.

Fifa right.

Nothing to stop swastikas and other nasties if they allow it.

The black arm band denotes the captain there is no need for anything more.

Playing to the gallery PM.

Poppy police stopped me this morning I am still not wearing one, cheap gimmicks.

FIFA make the captains wear luminous yellow armbands.

Optimistic as ever

Looks like the FAI are getting fined for something similar.

Well bully for you.

The fact is that Governments in the West particularly have realised that huge war casualties are not acceptable to the public. Vietnam was probably the final straw.
Many men were sacrificed in needless ways during a number of wars, particularly WW1 and their sacrifice should not be forgotten in order to make some political point. While humans exist there will always be conflict.

Whoosh. Read the link.

I did.

Let's be honest. Wearing the poppy or not wearing the poppy or any other act or lack of it can be construed as political.
I don't blame any veteran for being resentful. I bloody would be. We must all do what we feel is appropriate. We all have ou own sentiments about war and that is fine. There is no high ground on this as far as I'm concerned.

Sadly, poppies have become must have items, rather than decision items. Personally, I like to decide to buy and wear a poppy in recognition of the fallen - and those whose lives have been changed so they need Royal British Legion help. Seeing public images of people who have been dressed (news readers, actors in soap operas, anyone providing sporting entertainment) is a disappointment.

I would far rather see people showing individual (individually purchased) poppies whether pinned to shirts, shorts or temporarily tattooed to skin as an indication of respect for the fallen, instead of a poppy that has been provided.

It only takes a very cursory bit of investigation to find that the rules aren't drawn up by FIFA at all, but actually by a body called the International Football Association Board (IFAB).

It turns out that IFAB is made up of four representatives of FIFA and one member each from the four British football associations (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland). So that's 50% of the votes for British football officials, and 50% of the votes for the rest of the footballing world combined!

Given that it takes a 75% majority decision to introduce or amend a rule of the game, it's absolutely beyond doubt that British football officials approved the rule to ban political symbolism from international football fixtures, which makes Theresa May's xenophobic "how dare these pesky foreigners tell us what to do?" rhetoric look more than a little bit thin

Along the same lines...
