Full backs not good enough I'm afraid.

Well it's about the sort of coaches he brings in and the training he wants done.

Because in re-styling the team Pardew has neglected the fact that you need speed and intensity and / or strength from set pieces.

We look a really slow side and the less said about set pieces the better after tonight.

..it's down to some of the players not Pardew, when you have one or two who fail to comprehend the dangers of letting the enemy run the whole team is going to fail miserably, during that first half because of Liverpool's speed these culprits were left high and dry.

All-in-all, I'm happy with where we are now compared to before. We've got issues, yes, but there have been glimpses of good form and I certainly think we're not relegation material. AP is not the best but not the worst and not so bad as to get us relegated. So I'll take what we have now. I think we are improving - and that's good enough for me.

He said we didn't have enough play down the left side - the interviewer asked why he left Townsend on the bench then?
"Well - Andros wants to play on the right but I have got Wilf playing well there so I am going to have to look at that"!
No S*** Sherlock!
I know Yala wanted to go - because he kept being played out of position amongst other things - but why buy another right sided winger when you already have a good one and sell your best left sided winger who you kept playing out of position.
I suspect there is more to it behind the scenes but really........

..we are really just missing Souare.

I think if we can hang in there until Jan and then buy well we'll have a good season. Frustrating thing is we knew in the summer we desperatley needed an ACM, and cover at FB. We bought 3 of our 4 targets early with Benteke identified early too, so we had all summer to identify someone to buy or loan. We can't just play down the wings and lump the ball in for benteke. We have to have some sort of creativity in midfield. Puncheon is probably our most creative, so what do we do. ..Play him deeper...

I really don't want another manager as a new one means new players, because new managers really don't seem to want to work with the players they've got anymore. The clubs have the money to buy nowadays, so they oblige and you end up like Villa and Sunderland with a club full of very highly paid players sitting around refusing to leave slowly destroying the heart of your club from within like a cancer. We already have a couple or so at the club now, don't we?
Problem is although I don't want change we are so damn close to being a very good/competitive side and AP seems unable to just push us that extra yard. The FA Cup final was our problem encapsulated in one game.
Biggest problem to me is concentration so far this season. Fitness always is questioned when things go wrong, but that is also a mental thing a lot of the time, as when you overthink, it slows you down and makes you hesitant. Concentration on deadballs and slow reactions are killing us, the question is can the manager improve a players concentration or is it that as your quality improves you need better quality players and about four of ours need upgrading now?
Ledley, Campbell and Kelly really need upgrading and our bench needs improving. If he doesn't trust Fryers he shouldn't still be here. If I was gonna leave out Townsend, I would of put Punch there and played Chungy as the 10 as unlike Punch and Cabaye, Chungy doesn't want to keep dropping deep and be a Quarterback. Maca, did a good job, but it's not natural to him and he's better playing a little deeper IMO. Sentimental, I know, but I'd love to see Jonny given a run in the team at 10.

..stop writing sense!
Puncheon would have been caught with the ball yesterday because he would have sat back too conveniently for their attack during that first half display, Liverpool gave our players no time on the ball, every time at least three of them were onto us which of course is easier when we had nowhere to go with our set up.

..love Puncheon, hate how we abuse his talents.

I hear he term "transition" used quite a bit in terms of where Palace are going. Transition from what to what though?

Although we bought in new players over the summer I can't honestly see much improvement in most areas - our game plan, our passing and ability to maintain possession, and often awful distribution from out of defence.

Something is not right. In the end, in terms of our deficiencies on the field of play, it comes down to a) whether our players are good enough b) whether the management/coaching team are good enough to get the best from the resources at hand.

Whilst we do need strengthening in one or two positions, I really do wonder whether Pardew and, perhaps the rest of the coaching team, have the tactical acumen and ability to organise a side so that they really get the best out of the players they have.

You do wonder when we sign good players who then have a major drop in form when they start to play for us - eg Townsend.

West Brom away last year wasn't too clever!

Before you criticise someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticise them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

I think fitness is a major factor, 15 mins before the end some players were hands on hips, on their haunches (cabaye) after one of liverpools fast counter attacks, Pardew I think you need double sessions, not this 'its the happiest' squad I've seen from SP.

Think Pardew had to make-do with the team he had at the start and that meant we played a simpler game but it suited the players.

Now we are transitioning to a different style but it takes time to overhaul a squad and to get them all trained. We lack cover in several defensive positions and it's showing.

Also luck comes into it. We got a lot of lucky/close results in the first year of his management. Now not so much. I swore Benteke would have scored in each of the past 3 games, for instance.
