Apparently there is a rubber-backed pitch (£19.99) so you don't have to iron out creases for hours which didn't always work-out. Never did get Palace team so had to get Barcelona same shirts. My sets were older and the base has a slot so you take out the broken player and re-glue it in so each time you do it it gets shorter. You end up with just a head and shoulders stuck into the base. No injury list here...... Happy Days.......

I've been laughing out loud reading this, particularly the post about kneeling on the players. Did that so many times that in the end I had to play England&Wales v W.Germany&France just to get 11 v 11. I had Subbuteo rugby as well. Every time there was a scrum you had a rugby ball shaped contraption that you dropped the ball into and it would randomly dish it out to one of the players you had lined up around it.

I got a blank team and painted them with the Red and Blue sash with airfix paint. Wish I still had them now.

My older brother and me had a set with floodlights, fencing etc. He used to paint his own teams whereas I bought them ready painted. We were playing one day and I noticed he had let go of his keeper so I dived across the pitch to smash the ball home and was cheering wildly! Whilst doing it I snapped off one floodlight and broke a few of his players.... he punched me full in the face and then we both got a smack off the old man for fighting. We did have fun most days though! Edited by Hoof Hearted (24 Oct 2016 9.50am)

Yes subs as we called it meant open warfare and casualties until we made up and managed to get thru the big match.... Not mentioned here is Subbuteo cricket which must be worth a fortune if you can get one - a bit difficult for a kid with the field positions silly mid-off etc. but great for learning - if there was one now I guess day/night games 20/50 overs etc. there is an opportunity for somebody....

When I was about 11/12 my friend and I played our way through a whole FA Cup from Round 1 to the final. That's enthusiasm and dedication for you. I can't remember quite how long that took us but I think by the final I had discovered girls and it was never repeated.

I can't help think Pussay Patrol will be ruing his life choices now. Edited by Part Time James (24 Oct 2016 9.53am)
