Not good enough to score 15+ goals.
Not decent in the premier league, below average I'm afraid.

You literally have no way of knowing that. As soon as he starts getting a run of games together, he starts scoring for fun. And his hold up play, link up play etc is great too - as stated by AP.

He's no Benteke, no. But he's still decent.

He's no Remy either to be fair and we have a reported 12 million option to buy at the end of this season should he perform well.I think it will come down to his attitude myself,if he shows he wants to fight for his place and does well when he gets the chance then we may well keep him for another year.He has just under 4 years left on his contract and he will be on comparatively low wages which is very attractive in the grand scheme of things as Remy will want top money should he make it a permanent move.We would get a healthy profit if we were to sell him imo and that could help finance a deal for Remy but it would have to be some deal to replace him with a player who offers a similar level of threat potentially on a similar level of salary.I would keep him next season then take stock personally but whether or not he would want to stay as a No. 3 should Remy sign only time will tell.

Connor Wickham isn't a bad striker In my opinion, but he isn't good enough to be a starter in a premier league team.
He will never get an opportunity like he did last season, where he was virtually unchallenged for a starting place in a top flight team. He never took the opportunity, I know injuries, lack of form and a suspension were the main reasons. If he had we would be 30 million pound better off and he'd be the main man this season, but we're not and neither is he.
As has been said he will be 3rd choice striker if/when Remy arrives, so will be getting 10 minute cameos and league cup games.
Like I said, I don't think he's bad, but as a premier league target man I don't think he's decent. All down to opinions, but it seems Pardew and the other 40 odd managers in the premier league/championship (that didn't make a move for him), share mine.

If our first team stayed fit all season they we could definitely get a decent finish. But our squad is paper thin, and a couple of injuries and we will look suspect.

That is exactly what i said!!! I said we had the best TEAM i have seen in a long time. Squad still needs another couple of transfer windows before we can compete with the top clubs

I agree and I doubt Wickham's mentality at this level. Elbowing Vertongen and getting suspended just after returning on top of several injury periods. Then gets back in and finds form, scores a great header in semi final and now I think his head has dropped knowing he's 3rd choice. What he should realise is he's currently 2nd choice and may be needed at any moment to step in. He has to be prepared and he is not.

Three wins and people start talking about Europe. Jesus wept. Can we please stop getting ahead of ourselves? Any downturn then turns into a major crisis and all the drama Queens start to wet themselves.

Technically possible but considering the rest of the league and the strength of our squad...let alone the fact that it's only September and we've played mainly rubbish teams...

Realistically Man City, United, Arsenal, Spurs, Chelsea, Liverpool, Leicester, Southampton and maybe Everton are a good bit or more ahead of us. We will do very well to finish in the top 9, meaning Europe is very unlikely unless we get there via the cups.

I honestly wouldn't want a Europa League place yet. We would need probably two equally impressive windows to then have the sort of squad that could cope with the rigours/extra injuries of a European campaign. It's a bit of a poisoned chalice- look at what happened to Fulham, Wigan and several others whose names escape me right now!

Completely agree, last thing we want is to take this good squad and over stretch them. Let's build ourselves over a couple more decent summer windows before we go on a Europa run.

Also does amaze me how we have a couple of good results and people start talking about Europe. There's plenty of teams with better, deeper squads than ours. We really shouldn't have any pressure on hitting Europa league spots come end of the season.

One week sack the manager because of the bad run, two weeks later... This squad should be playing in Europe. It's like our fans are suffering bipolar. Calm down people....

I peaked at 1st vs 2nd last season, and won't be doing anything like that again.

All it takes is one last-minute shank to make it all come tumbling down again.
