Townsend is better for us at the moment as we already have one maverick winger in Zaha. Parrot

Different type of player and one who will be, I suggest, more effective. I think we got a good deal.

In an ideal world you'd have Zaha, Bolasie and Townsend all competing for two starting places on the wing. To be fair, before he left I had Yannick on the bench in my ideal line-up. The fact we got 28m for him, over double what we paid for Andros is mental! Yes, he's started well at Everton and I wish him all the best but Andros is a far better player from what I've seen.

Townsend is two-footed. He can cut in from the right-wing and score with his left-foot and as we saw yesterday he can cut in from the left and score with his right-foot from outside the area.He has also got an excellent free kick in his 'Locker'.In my humble estimation he is an all-round better player than Bolasie. Pretty much this, however we cant under estimate Bolasie's worth in terms of sheer presence/power. This was evident when he was absent from the team. Yes, on paper we only lacked his 0.25 assists and 0.01 goals per game or whatever it was, but the reality was we looked so weak! If Palace played s***, even if he played s*** for most of a game, we still had his scary and unpredictable influence that could claw something back from nothing. That is, IMO, the only thing that we may not have with Townsend, he's basically a PL version of Tom Ince, technically and statistically superb and despite being versatile in terms of play, stick a quality RB/LB on him and he may not be able to influence the game. Yala could beat a man with his heart and unpredictability, Andros will beat his by being technically superior to his opponent more often than not. Business-wise it's not even open to debate, the Board have played an absolute masterstroke!

This was a decision made by our management. Pardew has regularly said he wants to create a new style of play. He obviously felt we could achieve things better not withstanding financial gain with the latest crop of players. After the Stoke performance who would dare argue with him.

Townsend has certainly started to purr! However some on Hol seem to forget that Yala grew up when he joined Palace and we all loved the mix of his physicality, speed and trickery. He got bums off seats even in the main stand in many days when we needed some entertainment! Personally I loved the fact that he is so strong and his centre of gravity must be in his knees-so difficult to get off the ball!! Clearly it put the fear of God into opposing teams who doubled up on him week after week but unfortunately not matched by his output in terms of goals or assists. Though it is early days Townsend looks a great buy in terms of outlay and as Willo pointed out can attack and cut in from both wings and takes great free kicks.

Mike Ashley ballsed up on this one having the £11mil or £13mil (depending on buyer's league position) release clause if relegated 6 months before the new tv money came in. Big mistake. I bet he stumbled over his double chinned garbage when he told whoever agreed this clause what he thought of them. Both Townsend and Benteke were obvious would be successes. Another is Gulfi Sigurdssen but whenever he thinks of coming to London, he signs a new deal. Damn shame. He'd suit us perfectly.

Townsend has always been a good player. Couldn't believe he signed for us and at the price we got him. Plenty yet to come from Townsend so sit back and enjoy.

Time will tell. Townsend played very well yesterday and if he keeps at that level, then yes he will be better (and more effective) than Bolasie was for us. Bolasie looks to be enjoying his move to Everton, so it might be a good move for both players. I agree with this. It's not a matter of "better," in my opinion. This seems to be one of those occasions when both teams are improved as a result of these transactions. I loved Yala and wish him well. I feel Townsend fits what the manager is trying to do, and we ended up with a net gain of about 14 million quid. Overall, good business for both teams.
