As much as I will say The Jedi was great, his time had past. He is not the same player now and looked out of his depth the last few times I watched him. Selling him and Bolaise just might prove our club to be in touch with reality and still be able to push on. Flamini is a perfect replacement and a compliment to the guy he replaced.

Find me a defensive player that doesn't make mistakes. There were a series of about 5 players at fault for Mata's goal, plus you ignore that Deeney was non existent in the Semi-final because of Jedinak's work, Mile was probably MOTM. He worked tactically in some games and was getting his mojo back. Flamini for the departure of Ledley would have been a great bit of business. With AP wanting to "pass the ball and control games" Jedi was always going to be behind Ledley in the pecking order.Ledley lacks pace but you just have to look at the pivotal role he plays for Wales to see how much better he is at playing possession football than Jedi. Jedi was a warrior and will be sorely missed but you know what, he will get games at Villa a lot of which will be on the box.

Great addition to the squad, will help give strength all round. Think we will see a couple of midfielders coming in in the Jan window. So all in all well done to all involved.

Come on some of you. Jedinak was an average top half championship bottom half premiership player at best. We've now upgraded to a top half Premiership champions league player and got 4m to boot.

Oh I'm not suggesting that any player is perfect, far from it. Jedi was a hero for me whilst he player here, but unfortunately, his time was up for me. He gave the ball away far too often and the premier league is all about ball retention these days. We conceded a lot of goals in the final 15 minutes of games last season and I believe this is a lot of the time down to us not retaining possession, having to chase the ball as a result, which makes the players lose concentration at later stages as they're shattered. If you use the Bournemouth game as an example, the game in Feb, that we lost, we only had 51% of possession. On the game a few weeks ago, we had 59%. We also scored a last minute equaliser in that game. Flamini has a pass completion ratio of over 86%, which is very high for a defensive midfielder and that's the reason why he's a mark up on Jedi. We may miss some things about Jedi, but it won't be his scoring, so the part about penalties and well placed free kicks made me laugh. But seriously, it was great business. We got 4M for someone who was going to get few minutes, and might have not even made the bench if all the mids were healthy. And Jedi did fine. He got a new 3 year contract from a team that really wanted him, and he'll do great for them. If he stayed he would have no doubt be released on a free when his Palace contract was up.

This could prove to be our best signings in recent times. He has the leadership qualities that perhaps have been lacking, can be formidable in midfield (liable to be sent off in the past for intimidating fouls, though), and can take some of the weight off Pardew and Keith in the dressing room, as well on the training ground by using his experience to guide the less experienced. He is the finished article, has tremendous experience of the Premiership, must love London, knows his way around, all over mcuh of the continent, so should have a network to help scout for new talent, if required. He will not necessarily score goals, but can set up and instruct those who can and have been brought in to do just that. He, on the other hand, has not, but should be an invaluable master on and off the pitch. Some years ago, I was hammered on another site by suggesting bring the Doog back from Southend in a similar capacity (as an experienced player, not as aa goalscorer or manager). Despite the disparaging remarks, particularly as regards my location, the move worked out very well, as I recall. Where I am, there is TV coverage of the allegedly most attractive matches, inevitably involving what was once known as the "top four", as well as being intuitive in some respects, and follow Palace news and blog comments via the Holmesdale site primarily. Oh, and by the way, I´ve been a Palace fan since 1961, at which time, needless to say I lived and went to school in the vicinity of Selhurst Park.
