He seemed to drift out left during the last two games. I don't know if that was the tactics or whether he was frustrated trying to play down the middle. He is a very good footballer, but he needs to be operating in the centre the width of the 18 yd box. Still think he will be very important player for us.

He seemed to have done better in pre-season and looked pretty on form. He has shaped to take a couple of shots this season but hasn't looked like he's quite working hard enough in our matches. He should be a little more on the shoulder of defenders and challenging them better in the air. He seems a big enough guy and quick - I reckon he will go on a run of scoring soon.

I'm still not convinced by Wickham. He's still young and yet he has plenty of experience. But he doesn't make enough happen for himself. I would be the first to agree that the service into him is lamentable,, but I think he could do more. I thought we bought him to play down the middle, but he rarely gets in the right positions on those rare occasions we deliver a quality ball into the box. And with his physique, he should not be getting bullied by opposing defenders so easily.

It was towards the end of last year that Pardew expressed the view that he felt that Wickham should use his pace and power more. I don't know this as fact but just speculating that because of the number of injuries he has sustained perhaps he adopts a more cautious approach and is perhaps a bit reluctant to put himself about in certain circumstances. Goals aside, as a target centre forward I felt Murray, Cameron Jerome and Wilbraham were better players at holding in the ball up and out muscling defenders. I just don't see enough from Wickham and I think he has been very disappointing. I worry that Pardew will persist with him rather than lose face. Edited by premier fan (22 Aug 2016 9.28am)

At the moment it seems like his only job is to win a flick on for advancing teammates, which he isn't winning but in his defence no balls are played to his feet or even chest for him to hold up, he looks a frustrated man at times feeding of scraps.

Really struggle to understand why Wickham is rarely in the box when crosses come in. Look at this touch map showing how many touches Wickham had in the area [Link] The simple answer to that is because the service into the box is so poor he has to go looking for the ball, and he tends to drift out to the left to fill in where we are the weakest.

We could have Ronaldo up front and we would still lose, the service into the loan Striker is piss poor. Puncheon was awful on Saturday and he's the one in the position to make things happen. I just don't think he's good enough in that role. Hopefully when McArthur is fit he and Ledley can play the Holding role and allow Cabye to venture further forward, I think he would boss it in that role of playmaker.

Saturday Puncheon was playing a more holding midfield position alongside Ledley then Cabaye.

He has a 'gym body' and looks the part but his centre of gravity and core are not that of a man his size/bulk.

There were loads of crosses into the box, yet Wickham was no where to be seen when crosses came in, each time he was wide like a winger. It's bizarre as even wingers no to get in on far post for any crosses
