Very true they did but this is Arsenal. World champions at folding under pressure lol. I guess a better example would be de gea how often do you see him dig Man U out and save points. I think a gk is a necessary upgrade as we need a gk backed by the manager.

If and when opportunities to sign players of this calibre come around you have to take them...simple as.

Mandanda is a quality keeper, can't believe some are dismissing this. Even if it's not number one priority this summer, if the opportunity arises to sign this calibre of player you have to take it Hennessey fighting him for the number one spot after an ok Euros, though not as good as some are making out IMO, would be the ideal situation. Great second keeper to have, just not quite good enough to be number one for a Premier League team Speroni as a third keeper (with a possible view of coaching?), keeping a club legend and a very positive influence in the dressing room at the club Then if Pardew sees potential in McCarthy send him on loan to a Championship club for a season or sell him off, someone will be willing to pay a fee similar to what we paid

Finally someone with sense this guy is in the top 15 keeps in the world easy, even if you have a 1% chance you still try and sign someone like mandanda. And if it's on a free well even better doesn't affect your transfer kitty just wages and you got a world class keeper.

And yet Arsenal finished with 4 less points last season than the season before, winning 2 less games..... A keeper can be important but people need to look at the stats. As has already been shown, our issue wasn't primarily defensive. It was attacking - we can't score enough goals. That should be the priority on the assumption that the budget is limited. That doesn't have to mean a striker, if analysis suggests the issue is supply, but it does mean that has to be the focus. Having said that Mandanda would be an upgrade and even while playing ok for Wales, WH has still shown the moments that have most Palace fans cringing. Edited by OknotOK (27 Jun 2016 9.43am) Arsenal finished in 2nd this year but only in 3rd the year before. Safe to assume your conclusions are as misguided as your understanding of the leagues. Mandanda is a brilliant transfer. Goalkeepers are players you may as well have world class. Tottenham signed Lloris somehow when he was clearly inside the top 10 in the world and now they're back in the champions league. Not that I want to insinuate anything stupid from a miniscule fact or anything.

Not that I want to insinuate anything stupid from a miniscule fact or anything. Safe to assume you're talking out of your backside. I never drew any conclusions. Someone pointed out the spurious assertion that Cech would guarantee Arsenal 10 more points. I showed that actually Arsenal ended up with less points. No conclusions. Nothing about whether a keeper actually could earn you more points. But don't let that get in your way. I also said he was definitely an upgrade - although given I haven't watch a huge amount of French football I am unable to say how much. But then I am sure you're an expert and have been watching him week in week out.
