In theory, if you can put the ball in the old onion bag in the Nationwide League, you ought to have a good chance of doing likewise in the higher leagues. Hopefully at least one of Lapado, Appiah or Anderson will get a chance pre-season and solve our problems overnight. Alternatively, Kaikai seems to know how to score.

To be honest I would be concerned if we were looking for the next Jamie Vardy next season and pinning our hopes in improving our goals scored on only this and/or somebody "coming good" from our crop.

I agree. It's time for someone of a proven background to be brought in. Obviously if there is a talent out there who has potential we should be looking at them, but not pinning hopes on them. Then we can hopefully develop them over time.

Well we've got enough 'next Jamie Vardys' at the club: Gayle (to an extent), Anderson, Appiah and now Lapado, so we've had enough attempts at discovering talent from the lower leagues in my opinion. Lets see how Lapado does, i'd be happy to see one of them step up to fill Campbells place in the squad but the real target should be one with at least Championship experience.

If you are looking for a skilful, quick and guaranteed scorer of goals in the Premier League look no further than Jermaine Defoe. He is keeping Sunderland up and still has a season left in him. If Gayle can emulate him (and they have many similarities) then we have no worries for the future and all we then need is a creative midfield provider like Fabrigas. If not him then a Ben Watson/Lee Tomlin/George Boyd/Stephen Gleeson type would be an investment. Shame we let Barry Bannan go and ignore Jonny Williams but the manager has always considered that type of player a lightweight and expensive luxury ...

It does seem if you are critical of the club someone is ready to take offence. By saying that recruitment isn't good I believe that to be a genuine point. Ok, Cabaye, Wickham and Souare for me are good additions to the squad. However, for those players there is also Mcarthy, Mutch, Sako, Lee, Adebayor and Bamford (both loan), and last seasons loanees Sanogo and Ameobi. There are more of course but I think you can catch my drift. Some of those are championship players at best. I'm all for Pardew being given the chance to spend some money and build a team. No doubt he should be able to lead us into next season, but he needs to up his game, and the clubs ambitions when it comes to signings needs to improve. Just so it doesn't offend anyone, this is merely an opinion, copyrighted to me. Edited by fed up eagle (05 May 2016 2.49pm) I think you're being a bit harsh on some of the failures. Sako on a free was a no brainer given he was brought in as a squad player. Lee was so cheap and with game time he and Mutch seemed to be improving. McCarthy still may prove himself, he's looked decent before he came to us and it's an ok number 2. Bamford was worth a punt. Adebayor was a risk worth taking. Wasn't signing Cabaye a sign of our increased ambition? Also by your own admission, the 3 first team players Pardew has bought in, have all worked, it's the fringe players that haven't. Well now we only need to bring in players that are better than what we have, something Pardew has shown he can do. Our recruitment has been steadily improving since promotion despite the management changes.

Now that we've seen Pardew insist on playing a 4-4-2 with Bolasie partnering Wickham, unless Gayle burst into the team in these last few games, Pardew really ought to be looking at a proper striker so that Bolasie can go back to his best position. The benefits of having Bolasie there as the striker are that we can easily switch to a 4-5-1 or 4-3-3 as the game unfolds, Pardew also can field Puncheon as a much needed creative influence BUT we all agree that Bolasie isn't really cut out for a central role. I think we need a kind of off the shoulder kind of striker a la Vardy. Here are my candidates for a Wickham strike partner: Callum Wilson - Bournemouth, Loic Remy - Chelsea, Alexandre Lacazette - Lyon, Andre Gray - Burnley, Danny Ings - Liverpool, Jermaine Defoe - Sunderland Each one can take care of themselves IF played as a lone striker better than Gayle in my opinion, but are each are suited to playing with a big man like Wickham and a few (Remy, Lacazette, Ings) could slip back into a wing position if really needed to defend. I'd say now Gayle is finally starting to shine and gain the gaffers trust and Wickham if he can stay fit should kick on. Both fit and both would score 10+ a season. So I'd be thinking back up to them rather than to replace either... And that being said an attacking midfielder should be our top target. But I would def still go for Callum Willson as our possible third choice. Palace should sell all their other forwards with the exception of players breaking through from the development squad. No one else is good enough for our level.

I'd think Callum Wilson would be ahead of Gayle in the pecking order.

I know this may be a crazy suggestion but what about Lacina Traore? I've seen talk about a big man and he certainly is big at 2.03m. In the 4-4-2 style he would be a good counterpart up front on the left side because he is left footed and Wickham is right footed. Also, he would be a massive aerial threat with all of the crosses we throw in the box
