Not sure I agree, or rather I don't agree if they have in fact gone for Rafa. I don't see Rafa as being the man to get them out of this situation. They would have been better appointing Pearson until the end of the season with a big fat survival bonus and then taking stock. If they still wanted Rafa he would get a preseason and the opportunity to rebuild the team. There are probably Newcastle supporters who think ANYONE is better than what they have got and that ANY change will signal a change in their fortunes.

I can't stand Pearson but can't help thinking that he would have been worth a try, although they are leaving it rather late. Difficult to know if Leicester stayed up because of or despite Pearson. Hope that whoever comes in fails.
It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses. |

Benitez on the verge of joining on a 3 year deal. Ashley determined to keep them up at all cost ,as not willing to miss out on new £5.3 billion funds (tv rights) to be shared between Premiership clubs next season.

Hope that whoever comes in fails. Completely agree. Rafa is no more qualified to get Newcastle out of a relegation battle than Jose was to do the same at Chelsea, and look how that turned out. Managing Real Madrid is an entirely different skill set. If they stay up, Rafa would be a good hire over the summer for the long-term but I see him as a big risk in their current situation. Pearson is simply a no-brainer. Taking Rafa over Pearson is pandering to the fans desire for a high-profile, glamorous manager; not one versed in relegation battles (and, for that matter, getting teams out of the Championship.) If Rafa is hired by Newcastle now, it'll just be another chapter in a long-running story of stupidity. I also feel a bit sorry for McLaren this week. Useless manager who needs to go but hanging him out to dry while openly interviewing replacements will do nothing to improve his standing with the players and, thus, their chances of avoiding relegation. Newcastle seem determined only to shoot themselves in the foot.
