Really? wouldn't that be a step backwards?
Austin + Caulker for Gayle straight swap. Great deal alround. Plus get Iheanacho on loan. That would be a blinding transfer window...

Can't recall ever being impressed with him in the premier league. Maybe next to a better partner he will improve. Reckon we can do better personally.

Austin + Caulker for Gayle straight swap. Great deal alround. Plus get Iheanacho on loan. That would be a blinding transfer window... The thing is, we have a lot of fringe players who would be very good at Championship level and quite possibly in demand by QPR or QPR-like (top half of the Championship) sides. Gayle, Campbell, Mariappa, Chung, Mutch, Kelly, Williams. I am not saying I would let all of the above go, but they could be very useful makeweights if there was a player we really wanted to get from a Championship side. I think this makes deals for Austin, Caulker or players like that more likely.

We didn't get him previously when we tried and from what I have seen I think we dodged a bullet so he is not for me.

I think people are forgetting that we aren't bringing him in for the first team now. We have a great centre back pairing but are lacking options after that. Brede is good back up but he not going to replace Damo when his time is up. We need a young CB that we can mould into the Palace culture who can learn from the others. I always liked Caulker as a player. He was highly rated at Tottenham and was on the fringes of making the England squad. I agree he has made some bad decisions with moving clubs, but forgetting about QPR, Cardiff and us were in the simile positions when he signed for them. As others have said he has the right attributes and hopefully he's matured over the past couple of seasons. If the price is right I say sign him up.

Is this a fact or is it just a case of an agent who has a player who is in loan limbo looking to get him offloaded to a permanent deal. Then putting two and two together seeing that we have a couple of aged centre backs and have enquirered about him in the past suggesting we are interested. It maybe true but we do have Kelly a young centre back who knows the way we play who can step in , for all we know he may be being groomed for the role.

I Have a lot of Spuds supporting mates and when Cardiff were after him they all said that we should be in for him, they thought he would be worth hanging onto. With regards to people saying he has been relegated and not playing htat well, you have to look at what was around him and his managers at those teams. Cardiff just didn't have a clue. They spent all their big money on Caulker and that Danish striker that did nothing and were left with championship players, it doesn't matter who you are, you aren't keeping that side up. At QPR we all know what went wrong there, Lord Harry Redknapp went wrong there. SIgning all these mercenary players that clearly just wanted a pay packet and didnt care. A very over the top Rio Ferdinand couldnt get in the team over and over the top Richard Dunne halfway through the season. There is a good player there. With our midfield the way that Yohan and Jimmy sweep up in front of the back 4 and Dann's positional sense he will learn a lot nd have a lot less to do. For a fee of about 5mil this is a great deal. How much were wew going to sign that bloke from Reading for before Chelski nicked him at the 11th hour?

Another Darcy Blake. Rumoured on the Cardiff and QPR forums to have a serious drink problem.Has all the attributes to make a great centre back but currently showing no signs of fulfilling his early promise.
