Jesus Christ... So if there is a family a living month to month (or week to week) and the main bread winner falls ill or loses their job and the family run out of money, that is child abuse. f*** me.

If they don't provide for a child's basic needs, then of course it is.

That's a reprehensible viewpoint. I sincerely hope if you have kids nothing out of blue bad happens to you, lest you be labelled an abuser

My children are all grown up, do you know what a child's basic needs are?

Well then I hope nothing happens to your kids lest they be labelled abusers

You don't know then.

That's the most idiotic argument ever. I'm on the Internet; even if I didn't know I'M ON THE INTERNET.

Well I'm not asking what a website thinks, I'm asking what you think?

Well if you think a child's basic needs are subjective them your argument falls apart even further doesn't it?

Check out the un convention on the rights of the child. I think (I won't look it up, lest Chris accuses me of not independently coming up with the un charter all by myself) numbers 20 and 26 cover how the state is responsible for helping meet basic needs if parents are unable due to poverty.

It seems the coalition ain't doing enough.

"Children in 2015 should not be hungry and coming to school with no socks on and no coats - some children are living in Victorian conditions - in the inner cities," said one unnamed teacher.

Nick?

To be fair a teacher at my Mum's school sorted new clothes for a kid, who then came in the next day with the same old ones. The father was a scumbag by all accounts and had likely sold them, and not to put food on the table. (Pre-coalition BTW)

I'm assuming they were sent up a chimney as well...otherwise its a poor simile

Simple solution.

Scrap cash benefits for energy, food and clothing vouchers.

No excuses then.
