It depends what being good means. If for instance I was comparing myself to the god of the bible especially the Old Testament then I'd probably be up for the job of arch angel but if you asked me if I did enough for people in need then the answer would probably be no even though I wish I could do more.

As for being good enough to get into heaven well if again I was using the god of the bible as truth then I'm not sure id want to go to heaven to be honest so it bears no relevance, personally if there is a god I would say he is definitely not the god of the bible.

Is hell real well who knows none of us have visited yet.

The truth is there probably is nothing a lot of it doesn't add up and don't work especially if you go by the bible again and Christian beliefs but if there is hopefully it's a completely different god of the bible as I've stated many times.

That's true of many religions really, though the followers of each adopt a more pick and choose attitude to what it important and what isn't.

Well you're def going to the fiery furnace as you called parch a clat (or a chot)and questioned god's goodness. But yeah, i might be there too as i wonder about the god of the old testament and the killing of babies. Most people condemn herod for doing the same thing in the new testament. I can only think that he matured and became more compassionate as he grew older and that is why the message of the new testament is more about peace and forgiveness rather than retribution and murder, as the old one was. So maybe there's hope for all of us.

Is that why he invented Ebola and Aids?

He didn't.

Ps does no one spot the paradox of blaming a 'God' you don't believe exists, for the bad stuff in the world?

Anyone...........

Isn't it... Of course, an all powerful god, who created the universe and all living things, also created every virus, which includes of course includes Ebola.

Its the problem of dismissive arguments based around reductionism.

Sure, from a no believers point of view that is logical. However there are sound 'theological' rebuttals.

Im a bit busy at work right now to lay them out, but you would never accept them Jamie

Basically God didn't, evil entered the world with the 'fall', and the devil roams the world causing suffering.

I know, I know, why doesn't he stop it etc

Ah see that's the problem, when you've got so many people who's approach to metaphysics is essentially non-metaphysical top trumps.

Evil, Good, they're things of man surely, actions of intention and a consequence of free will. Its only really an issue if you have that whole 'everything in the bible is literally true'.

God is no more in charge of the universe and its operation than you, or me. For god to exist, it must be a force or part of that universe, not some entity that 'wears tights and fights crime'.

That's presumably why Christ talks about the importance of compassion and love in terms of god, as they provide succor from suffering.

Its more 'interventionist' than Bhuddism, which rightly, posits that suffering is inevitable - its how you deal with it that counts.
