I thought you had to set up an account now that automatically tops up by £10 when you go below £10? I just did that and assumed no more problems and it was cheaper. Haven't been through it in a few weeks, has this changed? Or does the system simply not work?

You can do that, or you can pay as you go - pretty confusing for a rare user like me, I almost forgot, as I had assumed that the barrier lifting automatically just meant there was an issue that day and I had got a freebie (until someone pointed out I was being a bl00dy idiot).

So you can pre-pay or PAYG (without an account)

They sent me an email saying my balance was below 10 quid and I had to top up per T&Cs.

£10 per x numbers of cars registered is a s*** load of free working capital for those b******s!

Quote TUX at 17 Feb 2015 7.52pm

I've never had a problem at Dartford tbh but last year I received a letter (inc a pic) of me 'parked(?)' the wrong side of a red light at around 6am in London (who does that!).
The fact that I'd moved forward to let an ambulance go by was irrelevant because as they say, the camera never lies cough cough. I asked for the CCTV footage and was told that they couldn't send it to me (how strange in a world of tech?) but I'm more than welcome to view it if I went along to their offices. Being self-employed it was pointless fighting it as it would have cost me more money so I paid the 60quid.
The moral of the story is they are cunds and will get away with anything if they can. You have proof on your side and will be fine. But that doesn't take into account the inconvenience.

Was this from TfL?

As for the footage if they said they cant send you the footage, although a fee would be included, they were wrong. If you took this further they would need the CCTV to prove it to the adjudicator.

Did you pay and how long ago was it?

I noticed that and ask for minimum £10 balance, they keep taking £10's rather than the difference to keep a £10 balance. Which isn't technically what I asked /wanted.

Say that this has caused you massive worry and stress and that you want compensation. Bast@rds

What a massive over-reaction! No electronic system is perfect (although my family and myself use the crossing frequently, without problems) and, as there is evidence of payment, the fine will be cancelled on appeal. You'd be living a charmed life if this was the worst thing that ever happened to you.

I thought they were going to stop charging for the tunnel/bridge once it had paid for itself...

Regarding that fine for letting an ambulance through, I'd have told them to fcuk off and die and we could all watch the cctv together in court.

Any time you appeal a penalty charge, the first reply will always be the standard "we've looked at the circumstances, blah blah blah, you're still wrong and have to pay".

You almost always have to write to them twice before they will actually look in to why you have appealed it, and whether or not you're right.

I never let anyone have control of my bank account unless its a set Direct debit like my mortgage for example.

The whole thing stinks to be honest.

Yeah I just checked and my original £10 is still in there. So I'm guessing after I've made one journey, they'll charge me another £10 to top it back up?? That's f*cking outrageous. £20 to do one journey, what thieving c*nts

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

I worked in parking appeals and this is not correct.
