It should also be noted he's on around 20k per week. Are people really suggesting that's a good return on investment? He should be moved on to a half decent championship side ASAP for all concerned. I don't think that's really the question. Objectively, no, he hasn't been a good return on investment (although the Sunderland penalty and the Villa goal almost justify a years wages in my book!) but his wages do represent an acceptable operating risk. Some of those sorts of risks don't pan out but you live with them; you cannot avoid taking them altogether. To me, the real disappointment with Gayle is that (as I see it) he really hasn't even been close to being good enough. Really, he's not even made a steady contribution off the subs bench.

Gayle is a class player, but not in this current team. If we are able to sign a couple of creative midfielders for next season he could easily be our top scorer. I agree. He needs creative midfielders that can feed in through balls to him. Ledley and jedinak don't seem to have that ability currently but the system we play still works so it's difficult. Personally next year I think it would better to see us set up against teams around us with a creative midfielder and then against bigger teams we have a similar set up. I don't know if anyone noticed bit from where I was sat in the main stand I could see he has certainly beefed up so they are obviously getting him ready. Expect him to play a lot more next season in cup games.

Love the age myth on Gayle - 25? He is 23 - so that IS young

It was stupid to have paid 6 million for him and why IH was allowed to pay that much I don't know? You are crazy and I have made my point because how can a player get to grips with the PL if he's not being played that much? Explain how Gayle can become a better player if he's sitting on the bench? I do trust TP and never said I didn't, but certain fan's having a go at Gayle is harsh, just like with Moxey. There has been times where we have needed a player like Gayle with pace in games. 1. IH was allowed to gamble on Gayle because we could not afford the fee that an established Premiership scorer would have commanded. Given how many we tried, and failed, to sign (Odemwingie, Bent, Cole, etc.) the answer to that question is not a secret. 2. Once again, you pose the same question yet ignore the fact that it's already been answered. Again: Gayle can't improve sitting on the bench, but he has to prove that he has the ability to improve in order to get off the bench. He has failed to prove that based on TP's selection criteria. So draw your own conclusions. 3. No one explicitly said you didn't trust TP, but where Gayle is concerned you implicitly suggest that your judgment of his potential is more accurate than TPs, or that TP is making a mistake by not playing him more. Therefore, it is not unreasonable to infer that where Gayle at least is concerned, you don't trust him. 4. I think fans have been pretty supportive/tolerant of Gayle. Some have expressed an honest opinion here but none have done so maliciously. I said I didn't believe in him but I calmly explained why; I certainly didn't say "he's a cnut...ship him out." I don't see the harshness myself. 5. Agree, we do need a player with pace. That's why Jerome has played ahead of Gayle. He has far more of it and he's bigger and more physical to boot. Jerome is very, very quick. 1. I think we could have got Scott Sinclair, but to have spent 6 million on an unproven player in the PL was crazy. 2. Look at Ince as he's done nothing, except for one good game, but can be a good player as he just needs to learn, just like Gayle. 3. For me I can see he has the ability to do well in the PL and just needs to get his strength. 4. I think some fans expect too much too soon. 5. Then maybe it's best to play him like a Zaha or Bolasie?

How many times did CJ win the ball but had no one running behind their defence. Surely Pulis must have plans to make us a better attacking force next season with additional signings. I admit that if we are planing on playing 1 striker all season then he won't be of much use again. I think in the right team he could be a goal machine.

It would be extremely surprised based on half a season in the Championship however I don't have a clue. We don't even know how much he cost, let alone how much he earns.

Anybody doubting Gayle's ability needs their head examined.
It was my dream to play for Palace and to make my debut. I've always played for the club so if I'm playing here, I wouldn't want to be anywhere else. - John Bostock (Nov 2007) |

I guess that Gayle has potential. It's just a catch 22 as to if he can show that potential enough to get off the bench and fit into a team where he does not naturally fit.
