as it looks like we are staying in the prem we have to get undersoil heating installed for next season that's not cheap

It is really in the big scheme of things, £1m.

Give me a spruced up Selhurst any day,Don't want a soulless bowl in the middle of nowhere.
Love Selhurst still makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up when I walk to it on matchday, even after nearly fifty years.

I totally agree, although it'd be a shame to play seasons with shut down stands. Somebody further back suggested shutting down Main Stand, Arthur then Whitehorse a season at a time....I think I am right in thinking the Holmesdale also needs a rebuild given that it is sinking into the ground? Personally, I reckon let it sink a bit more, I was quite puffed out walking up the hill on Saturday.

£113m for the Ricoh!? I know it has a massive exhibition hall (or two), a hotel and good corporate facilities, but still...

Leicester's cost around £37m, so the cost can vary greatly depending on what you want to build. Leicester's is your typical modern bowl, so no thanks, but I wonder what the costs would be to develop existing stands. You'd have to think it would constitute knocking a few of them down, but I wouldn't be surprised if we don't hear anything this summer. It's a massive financial commitment, and his historically has cost clubs in more than just money.

It's mind boggling the costs of just the squad to sustain Premier League football. No wonder the likes of QPR and Blackburn posted such massive losses.

I have no doubt that the board will ensure this club isn't compromised financially, but you'd expect to see a lot of investment in the infrastructure of the club; something I've said repeatedly since we gained promotion.

Transfer wise, I think we will see a lot of dead wood moving on, and a summer window that echoes how our January went. Sensible, astute, no big names. It'll be enough to improve the squad, but not enough to stop some "fans" moaning about a lack of ambition.

Or do a ground share. The valley will be my bet they owe us a favour.

That's kinda disrespectful to those who would fill the new stadium. I guess you don't 'lose' your soul when you move house, so why would Palace and it's fans 'moving home' be any different bud?
Moving would ultimately be the best for our club in the long term.
Hopefully it'll happen one day.

As has already been pointed out the wages of the top players disfigures the average wage.

Most players aren't on £30 grand.

Parish and co have been quite clear from the start.....Despite the regular calls from some posters on Hol we aren't going to bankrupt ourselves chasing glory.

They came in to stabalise the club and whatever the situation next season you won't see us taking risks financially just to stay in the division.

The fans on Palace talk who call for a 'twenty goal a season' striker or boardroom ambition won't ever really learn.....We got here without a massive club wage bill and we will look to remain with a 'competitive' one for a mid table side.

I see us going for Rhodes in the close season....But outside of that I doubt there will be much in the way of 'big name' signings.

Edited by Stirlingsays (13 Apr 2014 10.32am)

This last bit contradicts your very sensible post. Rhodes is on £35k a week at Blackburn and about to sign an improved £45k a week four year deal to stay at Blackburn. Our owners are unlikely to pay the former let alone the latter.

Scott Dann was on a similar contract and accepted a drop to come to us...so your point doesn't stack up

Rubbish.
Scott Dann took a pay drop to join us but he was not on the kind of money Rhodes is but that isn't why YOUR argument doesn't stack up. The obvious one. Scott Dann is not Jordan Rhodes therefore is not necessarily going to jump at joining Palace just because that's what Dann did.
If Rhodes leaves Blackburn there will be clubs willing to pay bigger money and wages than Palace. A moron would think otherwise

It makes me laugh when fans get exited about other people at the club coining it in while ticket prices are outrageously high when you consider the supporters' contribution to the Premiership brand.

Do you think the owner's are going to give you any of this money?

They are not even going to reduce or freeze prices with all this extra cash, which is bonus income they did not even account for at the start of the season.

We have been told all season that our support is worth extra points so where is our reward?

Without the fans in the ground the Premier would have no TV coverage to sell at huge profit around the world.

Who would want to subscribe to matches played in empty stadiums?

In fact the more I think about it there is a strong argument to suggest we should be paid to be there.

I dont quite get this undersoil heating thing.

If there is ice and snow in the surrounding areas on the pavements, they say it's a health and safety issue and call the game off.

So why do we need to have it...spose I'm just a thick idiot but i'd like an answer

No you are absolutely right. The majority of games that are called off are because of unsafe pavements/roads.
The Premiership however are more concerned with honouring their commitments to the tv companies. If police/local authority call a game off because of icy pavements that's not their problem. If on the other hand a member club cannot get a game on because their facilities are s***/out of date then they are inconveniencing the hand that feeds them.

I think you will find under soil heating is to maintain the standard of the playing service. Throughout the season, making sure in cold and bad weather the repair time is quicker and to a high standard. Rather than a playable but boggy pitch like in the lower leagues. Most games as mentioned before are not called off due to the pitch itself as it is normally playable, but due to the conditions into the ground. Premiership games need a flat service so the top teams can zip the ball around and so on, can you imagine Arsenal on a bobbily pitch!

Another exciting pre-season .......
