I've seen the Bolasie incident four or five times now and still can't see any contact . It's only bolasie's reaction that makes me think there must have been a touch .

He thought the lino gave a penalty as he initially put the flag across his chest before then changing his mind

The linesman said words to the effect "100% it hit his chest" so he obviously never changed his mind.I'm not aware of the linesman actually putting the flag across his chest to indicate a penalty - it would appear that the assistant was pointing to his chest.
In any event it is clear that it did NOT merit the award of a penalty so it was the correct decision.

He did momentarily and then he almost instantaniously started to say "it hit his chest" once Webb made the decision...I can only think that Webb saw the first part and then after the lino started to re iterate it he did the right thing...went over and then rellied on his assistant...just as it should be.

The first penalty shout on Bolasie was a definite penalty as he was caught.

We would have been very upset if that had been awarded against us !

Are you Webb's love child? Look at the incident closely, Holt stands on Yannicks achilles (standing foot), would you be so magnaminous if he had put Yannick out for the season. Perhaps someone was standing in front of you!!

Putting aside the "Love child" nonsense, IF there was any contact with Yannick's achilles it was purely accidental.Anyway NO injury so your argument is hypothetical.I'm not sure that Holt did enough or indeed anything to concede a penalty.Webb was far better placed than me but having seen it on TV I am still NOT convinced that a penalty should have been awarded - certainly not conclusive !

I am not Webb's biggest fan. I beleive the 29 yo ref to be the best ref at the mo. However, I feel Webb got some undeserved stick yesterday.

Firstly, Bolasie scuffed his shot. It was not a penalty. We didn't think it was when he went down in the first place.

For the handball, from where Webb was it looked a penalty. Plus the players and the fan were protesting. It was a brave decision to consult the linesman and reverse it to the right call.

The Jedi incident was laughable. Jedi tried to step across Guzan to slow him down, then Guzan caught Jedi as he ran past. The incident was right in front of us and we were laughing as everyone was was claiming a pen and red card.

It was the same with many decisions that Webb made in this and other matches. We watch the match with Red and Blue glasses on and blame the ref for every decision against us. Don't get me wrong, there were some bad calls, but every 50:50 ball the fans were on Webb's back. I agree with the big club mentality of the prem, but we can't blame it for every bad decision against us. We don't want to go back to getting on ref's backs like in the Warnock days as we'll never get the 50:50 decisions that we should get at home.

Lets support the team and only get on the refs back for geninue bad decisions.

By awarding the penalty initially clearly showed that he just guessed it. He should have consulted the lino first rather than looking like a fool afterwards.

No, he gave what he thought he saw, the player definitely moved his body to the ball and contact was made, in normal play time that could have looked like an arm made contact with the ball, and he had the commonsense to consult the linesman.

He got that one spot on, and the one with Bolasies less than graceful theatrics 100% correct, neither were penalties.

In actual fact Webb reacted to the linesman pointing to his chest which normally indicates a penalty, but on discussion the lineo was saying the ball hit the player's chest.

I still think Webb missed things and would not be happy with him refereeing us every week.

He completely ignored the challenge on Bolasie which I believe was a pen (why would he go down with the goal at his mercy?) and didn't even see Guzan take out Jedinak.

It was in front of me too and although MJ made sure he went across him he did barge him and then kick him - if McGregor from Hull got a red for that little silly flick at O'Keefe then this was nailed on red. (I laughed too to be fair)

I thought Webb was yet again his usual self..I dread it when we get him and if he is the cream of PL reffing then crikey...you just do not know what you are going to get from him each time he comes

I disagree about the 1st shout as well - Bolassie was rather subtly and cleverly caught for me although I agree with Pulis - I can see how it wasn't given

Just one thing on his reversed penalty - how did it end up a free kick to Villa ??? The ball went through to Guzan who picked it up

I thought Webb was yet again his usual self.

His "Usual Self" has refereed an FA Cup Final, A Champions League Final, a World Cup final, in the Euro championships etc etc.
You certainly don't get selected for such prestigious events if you are a somewhat less than capable referee.

Regardless of the penalty incident, which was still a fiasco, as no ref should ever have to get themselves in a position where they need to reverse a penalty decision, he was still a joke. The first penalty shout on Bolasie was a definite penalty as he was caught. And Guzan was lucky to stay on the pitch after kicking out at Jedinak. Also one of their players did a deliberate handball which should be an automatic yellow card. Nothing. Sh*t ref.

Edited by indianapalace85 (13 Apr 2014 6.25pm)

Jerome done a deliberately hand ball as well and didn't get booked so swings and roundabout.
Bolasie miss kicked the ball and fell to the floor but was that embarrassed he thought he would try and blame someone else so stuck his hand up for a pen.
Sick of the constant ref bashing its embarrassing, especially after 3 wins guess some people just like to moan.

Yes and we all remember how well he refereed the WCF....he was booed getting his medal and had both sides moaning about his officiating, his League Cup Final ended in a 20 man brawl and at a local level his 'performance' at Selhurst against Saints was as atrocious as I have seen for a long time, as was he back in Feb when he refereed Liverpool v Arsenal and made such a pigs ear that Mark Halsey had to come out and defend him and tell him to concentrate more on his reffing rather than his after dinner speaking

Thats his 'usual' self

What could he have given there?! It was in his hands, so effectively a goal kick anyway. He's not gonna do a drop ball when the only reason play stopped was his mistake.

And Howard Webb initiated the brawl ???? Whatever next !
And there were those who conceded that the World Cup Final was very difficult to referee and praised Webb for his handling of it.

In the final analysis, every referee, like players will have days when they fall behind their usual high standards. All referees make honest mistakes.I have no issue with Howard Webb - he is a top referee.
