Losing the FA Cup final replay after being so close to winning in the first game. It didn't feel so bad at the time funny enough, because I was just proud to finally see my team in an FA Cup final(s) back when the FA Cup was massive and they were two great occasions, but over the years its bothered me more and more that we had a major trophy snatched away from us, whatever happened in the future nothing could have taken that away from us and I always feel quite sad about that now.
That team of misfits, ex-lower league and ex non-league players deserved that cup and everyone one of them was English as well!!

That's why even though I admired him as a player and I think he's done a good job at stoke this season as a manager...........I fcuking hate mark hughes!!!

My most painful memory as a Palace fan was our relegation in 1993 after supposedly being safe , and with a massive 49 points. I remember my growing fear as Oldham won their remaining games in hand, and I remember listening to that final day on the BBC World Service, and hearing that Oldham had beaten Southampton, while we lost to Arsenal. I’ll never forget the presenter’s words “Saints did Palace proud”. Southampton to their credit played their hearts out in a game where they were already safe.

Why am I posting this depressing memory? Probably because in my heart of hearts I’m fearful of more pain this season, and hoping that this time around we don’t leave our destiny in the hands of the likes of a Southampton!

this was a bad one.
my most upsetting relegation.

plus the man.u cup final, pinball equaliser, gutting.

Plenty, but one that still wrankles is the Cup Semi in 76 and it still hurts today - My 9 year old self genuinely thought we were going to win the FA Cup

Sash i had a £1 WIN on us at 250-1.!!!!
From the First Round.
Saw all the games in that Cup Run.

Blimey 251 quid back in winnings - you could have bought a house for that back then al

I am not sure what pains me the most - that it wasnt a penalty for the first as it was well outside the box or that we simply didnt play on the day

I think its the latter

I have hated Southampton ever since and to make matters worse our next door neighbour a the time, who was a loverly fella, was a Saints fan and although he didnt rub it in - he was over the fecking moon obvioulsy

Another horrible Palace memory.
After that cup run, to lose to them.
I've always hated Osgood & don't care for saints either.

Charlton for me. That game summed up with the kunt Fortune. He should have sent off in the first half and you could tell he would have the final say.

I still hold Leigertwood partly responsible!

so many to choose from
loosing play offs
fa cup final defeat
loosing great players
administration
loosing managers

thats what being a palace fan is all about taking it on the chin and getting behind the team through thick and thin.........

Claridge's shin
Still say Mark Hughes equalising in the final was more painful than losing the replay.
Relegation in 1993.

Good thread.

Mine, in no particular order:

1976 FA Cup semi-final Vs Southampton
Cup Final equaliser & replay
Claridge play-off final
Getting relegated by Ian Wright
Getting relegated at Charlton

Made me depressed thinking about this but it makes the good times even better when you've been through the heartbreak we have as Palace fans!

A few depressing moments;
Buying Gabbiadini then Taylor to replace Ian Wright
Going into admin first time round
Trevor Francis being appointed manager - like being diagnosed with a long drawn out illness
Getting humped 3-0 by Watford in a play off semi

What a great thread, but most disappointments have a silver lining. We would not have been promoted several times if we had not been relegated so much. We would not have had "Hopkin's curler" if we hadn't had Claridge's shinner. If we had beaten Southampton in 76 my wife would have divorced me for spending a month's wages on a cup final ticket.

And best of all, that awful Saturday when Oldham were winning against Southampton and relegating us my dad was in hospital after a heart attack. My son said to me "it is only football dad, much better that Grandpa is getting better".
