OK, now we have all bemoaned the situation what are we going to do about it? Shouldn't be beyond our collective wit to give some suggestions.

As a start, how about an Indian (sub-continent, not country) dance group after the Crystals. More my cup of tea dancing-wise anyway. Then 19,283 odd (?) Holers could finally make themselves known by raising the roof when they finish. And how about a Kabaddi game? That really could be fun.

Or being a bit more extreme, do a deal with Croydon Council to support it if they agree to run the Mella/World Music Day again.

Having regional themed days for the B games. We could have Indian, Afro-Caribean, Turkish, Irish, Polish, ANZAC. Not only some great food and drink opportunities but also a chance to showcase lots of good stuff.

We could have a Baltic day and have car washes in the car park!

Anything to make people feel that we embrace the fact that Croydon is uniquely multi-cultural and nobody will get stick due to their race or ethnicity (or being Welsh, however you categorise that). I really don't know why other clubs haven't done something high profile but we are, after all, the immigration centre for the country.

Most of the local ethnics are not interested in following palace - Selhurst park has been here since the 20s but it's like we don't exist as far as they are concerned. Those that do enjoy football support Arsenal.

I was going to suggest that maybe football is too expensive, then I remembered that a lot of the local youths walk around with £100 trainers, expensive mobile phones and drive expensice cars.

I guess we are not fashionable enough for them. Hopefully things will change with future generations.

On a similar thread on the bbs many moons ago, someone suggusted we should offer free tickets/discounts to BME's which I totally disagree with.

Give them time, they will come. And if they don't - sod them. Let them support Arsenal or Man United and not know the true passion of being part of community club. And that's what I love about palace. I feel like I know all the people that I stand around. I see all the same faces at the away games I go to. I feel like I belong. How many Arsenal customers can say that?

I live miles away, so I'm hardly in touch with area.

That said, our academy has a very stronger mix of ethnicities, and you would hope this would lead to friends, family etc possibly venturing down to Selhurst on a match day.

I think the club could possibly do more regarding marketing, but I'm not privy to what you all see week in and week out outside of match days and in and around the community.

What I would say, is that a lot of big clubs are very clever in where they recruit from, because the marketing possibilities are huge. How many United shirts are sold in Japan due to Kagawa? How many Chelsea shirts have popped up in Egypt because of Salah, Ghana because of Essien, Belgium because of Hazard? How many Argentines have Man City shirts with Aguero on the back, or Barca shirts because of Messi?

I know it's unattractive, and I know it's the complete opposite of us as "real" fans, but the exposure being in the Premier League has is huge. I appreciate we are a few years away from selling shirts in the Far East, but given the cultural melting pot that is South London, you'd expect the club to try and appeal to as many fans from as many background as possible. Forget reduced tickets for a particular ethnicity, it's about showing that the club is there for the whole community.

Start at the schools; if they don't pick up a side from their parents, then getting them on side at school is where it starts.

Why give them free tickets because there black? That is ridiculous I have black mates but my god do I f***ing hate do gooders who feel the need to kiss their arses all the time. What's worse is that they force it on other people as well and if you refuse you are automatically, "Stuck in the 80's" We were slaves to the Romans yet we don't go on non stop about it feeling sorry for ourselves.

If you have a very diverse community then it is not possible to market the club to a "typical" potential supporter. The general thrust of all clubs is to brand themselves as family clubs. That is not a bad thing but if you want to attract teenagers who will become the dedicated fans of the future you are unlikely to do it by cultivating an idea that this is the sort of activity that you do with your mum.
I think teenagers are attracted to a club either by its success or it's image or both. If you can't attract new support by winning a pot every year then you have to concentrate on image. The club needs an edge and street credibility. To some extent you can see the effect the ultras have had in changing Palace's image. The quality of the stadium is another factor.
The club should shamelessly plug its South Londonness and link it to local youth culture, (of whatever ethnicity).

Football culture has developed through the generations from the days when the only way to see high quality football was to watch your local professional club. The sense of belonging and loyalty doesn’t translate well to people outside of that culture in this day and age.

The club’s ‘Born in South London’ campaign was pretty good and aimed at inner London youth but to be honest, to most black kids, being an Arsenal fan will always be easier, cheaper, cooler and more enjoyable. How do you compete with that?

go back to handing tickets out to the local schools, get incvolved with the local area more and genreally being a higher profile, more successful club.

NOW is the time the club should be capitalising on all of this. these kids are tomorrows fans no matter what bloody colour they are
