Like the playoff final? O'Keefe was immense when he came on. Stats don't lie.... and for me bear out my gut feeling that he's out of his depth in the Prem. I appreciate that he has had good games for us and his attitude and work rate are good.
Stats don't lie?! You're old enough and ugly enough to know that's bollocks, Hoof.
Stats don't lie, Opta monitor every player in the Prem and know who is doing what. You can't argue with it, so it is not bollocks. You can't record everything in stats though. They don't record how many times per game he offers himself as an out ball for Gabbidon/Ward when they are stuck on the corner of our own penalty area. They don't record how many times he shepherds players away from danger or puts pressure on people forcing them to make a loose pass. That is his job. But, I'm sure you are right. You and your stats clearly know better than every single manager who has picked a team while KG has been at the club. I mean, just look at the rankings that started this. Martin Demichelis has a higher rating than Vincent Kompany and Per Mertesacker. Robert Snodgrass better than Oscar? Stats don't lie...
I didn't produce the stats, but they confirm my feelings (and a LOT of others on here) that he simply isn't good enough for the prem. As I said I admire his attitude and work rate, but think we play better without him.

Stats don't capture everything about a game of football, and you always need to put things into context. It's why the moneyball concept doesn't apply to football as much because you can't measure a player's impact as easily as you can in baseball.

I cannot believe he is ever picked! Can't pass, run or tackle and adds no value. Does not look fit! Jedi is the defensive destroyer. Kg is a poor nan's Jedi. We need to get footballers into midfield who can tackle, run, pass and create. Many are better than KG

I don't rate KG at this level, O'Keefe, Guedioura, Ward in midfield and Joe Ledley (granted not seen much of him) all offer much more to their game. The Arsenal and Swansea games made up my mind about him, he doesn't make many mistakes but he is god awful at going forward and I believe a PL player should have more to his game than KG for instance in the Arsenal game Palace were putting balls into Arsenal's area and trying to link up, Jedinak, Chamakh, Bolasie, Parr, Ward and Puncheon all going forward linking up and ******* KG is just standing there watching and not getting involved and without a doubt in my mind O'Keefe, Guedioura or Ledley would have been there helping out. I'm Pro-Keefe!

He has little skill, awareness, passing skill or positional sense. He is a blocker who adds nothing to our need to score some goals (as sure as mud is mud, if we don't improve here we will go down) However, if he keeps playing and we do survive then I'll bow to the Manager's superior judgement!

Christ. We're going purely by stats now are we? Why even bother playing games, we can just look at who has the highest rating like a game of top trumps. KG has been in the starting XI more often than not under every manager he has had at Palace. People who work with the players every day and know more about football than anyone on this site have decided he is a valuable player and worth his place. Personally, I do think the signing of Ledley will see his contribution get a bit smaller, but writing off a player who has been so key in some of our biggest results of the last three years is ridiculous.
O'Keefe was immense when he came on. Stats don't lie.... and for me bear out my gut feeling that he's out of his depth in the Prem. I appreciate that he has had good games for us and his attitude and work rate are good. If O'Keefe was the star performer, why did Freedman, Holloway, Millen and Pulis all overlook him in favour of KG? If you want to pick out individual games how about the play semi second leg where KG was a colossus, or Everton at home? SOK looks great when he comes on, harrying and chasing the ball down but positionally he is not as good as KG. That is why he gets picked, because he is nearly always in the right place at the right time and is a great partner for Jedinak. His positioning means Jedinak can come out and make those interceptions and challenges, knowing that KG is still there in behind him. Plus he's also physically more imposing than O'Keefe. Spot on this!! Blinded and blinkered a lot of people are

As a central midfielder - I'd agree with the idea that KG is surplus, but he's not a central midfielder, he's a defensive back up, holding midfielder, who links the defence with midfield and restricts space available fo the attacking team. In order to play past him, into space, the opposition risk interception by the defence. His role is more like an obstacle in a flow, to force play to diverge around him, allowing those behind him to predict play and to harry possession play. He does exactly what he's done since he first came to us on loan, week in week out. Restrict space, close down players, force the play into channels, and to bring the ball back out through midfield. He reminds me of a budget Makelele, never seems to do anything fancy, except pick up the ball, be in the right place and play out short passes.
