Needs an excuse to drive out Chamakh, he really isn't a Pulis type of player. Didn't see Chamakh dive.

Surely you're on a wind up?

He must be one of the only players that Pulis has consistently started since he took over.

No wind up. He is not a Pulis type player, everyone knows it, but he needs him for now. He criticised him for giving the ball away a lot, apparently, against Manure, when everyone else felt he was one of our best players bar that one tackle. Didn't single anyone else out and now announces he's fining him for a dive against Manure a week after the event when no one knows what incident he is talking about. No other manager bar Di Canio has taken any sort of public stance against his players and I would have no problem if he kept it in house.
Just the cynic in me, but I feel this is the start of the build up that will lead to him leaving and us ending up with someone like Crouch next season. If I'm wrong then I'll be happy.
Just watched weed vs Palace playoff again tonight so I might lighten up a bit later.

No, he accused him of diving today in the first half, no mention of the United game.

How exactly is he not a Pulis type player? Furthermore, what is a Pulis type player? It just seems to be a phrase thrown around when someone doesn't get picked (see Moxey, Gayle, Bannan).

Skillful thinking footballers. He likes his players to be workmanlike and able to follow instructions to the letter. He doesn't give them any freedom to express themselves and I base this on many years of watching the type of teams and football he produces.Would you call KG a Brendan Rogers type of player or Jedi a Wenger type? If Pulis was starting with a clean sheet do you honestly think he would pick a player like Chamakh?

Successful teams, who get points and win games.

Chamakh is currently exactly a Pulis player, committed, hard working and willing to put everything into a game. He's a skillful player who isn't afraid to play target man, or pass (or play out of position). If he didn't like him, he'd have brought someone in to replace him.

Its a bit of a myth that Pulis is a hoof ball merchant who like big players and lumps. That reputation seems to be based on the bias that Stoke recieved for having the temerity not to roll over for 'the big clubs game style' and avoid being whipping dogs each season.

Pulis remains one of the most successful premiership managers around. In my book, his achievements at Stoke (and elsewhere) are comparable to Fergieson and Wenger when you compensate for budget and size.

We are exceptionally fortunate to have him. Without him, we'd likely have been all but relegated by now, and chasing to beat the Derby county points total.

Thomas should be fined for not passing to cameron jerome who was in space in the box!

Er, no... but you're right about one thing. The general theme is that Thomas chucked away 3 points. Not what I saw. He threw a small chance of getting a goal had he shot earlier or passed to Jerome [who actually had no space to shoot]; but he was hardly one-on-one with the keeper.

Pulis has been refreshingly honest in public about fining his players for 'Simulation'. Other managers in full glare of the TV cameras in similar circumstances might have said that they would look at it and deal with it internally if necessary !

Hmmm...debating playing style at this time of the season in our league position ? I'm happy with any style that gives us a better chance of gaining the points we need to stay up. And I think that largely, TP is getting it right.

As for diving...I thought Thomas hesitated that split second and the chance was gone and then he tried to win a penalty. Seen worse ( Ashley Young for example ).

And when it comes to winning cheap free kicks / diving, I thought our players could learn a lot today from the opposition....they go to ground oh so easily, got what they deserved in the end.

I think your right about JT...I think he decided he couldn't get a shot off and decided quite late to try and go past the player, but got that wrong, he didn't really dive but when the guy made body contact lifted his feet... people need to remember that he has had very little play this winter, his overall contribution when he came on was pretty good though (I still think he is the best crosser of the ball we have, and with Murray back in the side that could be pretty important)

Agreed Willo.
Hopefully other Managers will follow his stance.
This will then make the job of the referee easier.

Think I'd have fined him for passing to Jerome! It would've sailed into the stands or he'd have missed it! Jokes aside, the touch to go passed the defender was fine, he had opened up space to shoot where as, hinting it first time would've taken something special to get pasty all the bodies. Going over like that though leaves a sour taste in the mouth and I don't wish to see it again.

I wonder what the reaction would be IF one of our players clearly 'Dived', the referee was conned, awarded a penalty which was converted to give us a vital win in the final game which kept us up ? !!!!

Supporters might take a different view of the player concerned !
Furthermore would the manager apologise to the referee thereby inferring he made a major mistake and also come out in public to say his player had been fined ? !!!! A manager admitting that his player's 'Cheating' kept his side up at the expense of another club ! Would the manager just think that his player had made the right decision ? !!!!Just a thought !!!!

Very good management to state this publically at this stage of the season. Referees will be watching and if it helps us get just one 50/50 decision in the box before the end of the season, because subconsciously the referee won't fear being duped by a dive, it could make the difference between us staying up or going down.

Living down here does have some advantages. At least you can see them cry.

Managers should not, in my opinion, criticise players in public. A managers job is to fully support his team. Staff will always try harder if they work for a loyal manager. A managers job is not about appealing to the supporters it is about getting the team to play as well as they can. Public criticism is a sign of weakness in a manager not strength.

Apart from this I think TP is doing a brilliant job and I like his straightforward interview style

I reckon he though he was about to get a hefty body check and decided he didn't fancy that. So he decided his best choice was to leave the ground, make the hit milder and also get himself a penalty. Just not the right thing to do in a Pulis team, you stand up for yourself instead. Should have been strong and created more space for himself.

And the defender did very well to pull out at the last minute, it did look like he was going to check him. He didn't touch him at all in the end.

Don't agree, there are times when a public statement is good. Then everyone knows where they are and can move on. Thomas will get over this and knew he had done wrong. Pulis is establishing a culture and provides absolute certainty for all, well done him. I don't like Wenger's approach, too cloak and dagger and too defensive with the press.

If the ref had awarded that as a Pen I would, of course take the goal as a fan but I would also happily say that it wasn't & I also doubt the ref would be officiating top flight again for a long while. I also think that Pulis would have said similar to what he did last night.

Murray's wasn't a penalty but I can understand why it was given as he ended up a good 6 feet into the box.

On a side note, I also think that if the last man brings down a striker with an open goal then you should be awarded a penalty regardless of inside/outside the box as in all probability you would have scored anyway.
