Will never forget HAVING to shake Uncle Ron's hand before I could get an FA Cup Final ticket. He must have had a coathanger jammed in his mouth that day as he was wearing a permanent false smile. Made him feel loved & powerful no doubt while also allowed him to pass on any nasty diseases he may have had at the time....yuk. Apart from that, nice bloke.

syphoned off cash for the good of his golf club

A serious allegation and I have NO idea if this is accurate or just some Anti-Noades scurrilous accusations.
All I will say is that I certainly don't recall CPFC going into Administration whilst he was at the helm and of course he did take over the club when it was at rock-bottom financially.

As I mentioned earlier Noades certainly divides opinions amongst our supporters !

Ron Noades RIP

I did hear that a lot of equipment was bought by cpfc, but it was taken to the golf club and not selhurst.

Well, well now let me see a firm called Altonwood built the holmesdale owned by whom?

See the crest on the golf courses is a eagle, when he acquired the addington he set about chopping down trees removing heather from certain holes, rumour was so players could get round quicker meaning more golfers on the course.

As If Ron would pull a stroke like that?

What I did find quite amusing though that apparently S.P. popped around his house to seek advice before the takeover.

And yes I was in the 5,ooo club.

Like marmite regarding Ron.

Noades WAS syphoning off funds for his golf clubs.

One of the Sunday broadsheets ran an expose of how he was doing it.

Basically his golf clubs invoiced CPFC for use of their facilities. These include regular CPFC board meetings and xmas parties. Not illegal, but unusual that the Selhurst Park facilities weren't used when they were plenty big enough to cope. Copies of the club's accounts were shown to support these allegations.

Noades also had a lot of our players signed to him and his wife as their agent. This allowed him to engineer lucrative transactions when he took over at Brentford again to the dtriment of CPFC.

The building of the Holmesdale stand (under his stewardship) was done cutting corners. That is why it leaks and the facilities are p1ss poor to this day. We had a grant to build that stand following the Taylor report on Hillsborough encouraging all clubs to go all seater.

I personally think Noades should not be honoured, but just let him lie and we should all move on.

Not illegal though is it? It's a way of moving money around the companies he owned, it's done all the time. It's not syphoning either. As I have stated many times, he was the sole owner of CPFC, there were times when we all wished he would have spent a bit more but it wasn't our money and it's very easy to spend someone else's. He ran the club in a similar way to CPFC2010, I HAS to be self sustaining.

If he and his wife were registered agents, again there's not a problem, you really need to try and view this on a factual basis and not let your emotions cloud your judgement. I would have thought a right wing capitalist like you would admire him.

Personally I'm not bothered either way if he's honoured or not.

There are others in Palace's post war history that would deserve something far more than Ron Noades.
People who left a lasting legacy.
A successful period was had under Noades - yes - but he sold to Goldberg when he knew it was going to go tits up and it never worried him at all.
Being a Businessman he took the money - that I understand - but he does not deserve anything more than the £23m he took in 1997.
Doing that blotted his copybook in my opinion.
Enough is enough!

but he sold to Goldberg

Indeed but at a time when supporters were wanting him to leave - it was all on the back page of the 'Croydon Advertiser'! Furthermore Noades offered Goldberg the ground but he defaulted on the payments so it was taken back.In retrospect thank goodness Goldberg never got the ground ! Goldberg was desperate to take over the club and initially offered Noades £30 Mill for it.

My post did make the point that it was not illegal (highlighted in red).

Whilst his actions broke no laws, he was hardly being a benefactor to CPFC as he had bought the club for a song and could have led Palace to even greater success but he chose to be greedy and cash in.

That behaviour does not warrant him being "honoured" by the club, in my opinion.

Does any one remember this farce from the late 90's?

This is from his wikipedia site

In 1991, Noades provoked controversy with his comments on the racial make-up of his team:

"The black players at this club lend the side a lot of skill and flair, but you also need white players in there to balance things up and give the team some brains and some common sense."

The fall-out led to several black players leaving the club, including key players Ian Wright, Mark Bright and Andy Gray.

RIP Ron but lets move on

Utter rubbish as supported by Ian Wright and Mark Bright not only in the Centenaery DVD but also by attending the funeral and delivering the eulogy.

I have just listened to the interview, I think I may have heard it, or part of it before. Not sure why, but this time round it has led me to drop my contempt for Ron, which I have held ever since he sold to Goldberg, maybe it is because he has died but it seems fitting to acknowledge his contribution which was not inconsiderable, maybe flawed but part of our rich history.

Noades was a parasite on the club. However, some let that pass as the delivered our best period, ever.

Why didn't he push forwards after our 3rd place finish? I seriously believe that if Noades gave us proper investment we could have achieved what Chelsea have done - playing in a huge stadium challenging for the number 1 club in London.

I'm tough. I'm ambitious. I know exactly what I want. If that makes me a bitch, I'm OK with that.
