Superb manager. Really good. He's gonna keep us up for sure. But hearing his post-match interview it is obvious that he hasn't got an ounce of love for Palace and to him it is just a job and a great challenge. Venables, Coppell and even Dowie......they somehow belonged even if short-lived for two of them. Is this the reason why there are no TP songs? The fact that we all know that this relationship has zero to do with passion and everything to do with pragmatism? I love the fact we are going to stay up but i don't like the other fact that I can't warm to our manager even though i admire him. The drawback of success? Edited by Kermit8 (09 Feb 2014 12.13am)
Every time I listen to him, it's not like past managers over the years. I share the same view that he doesn't show any love to Palace and it is plainly just a job. Commenting on the fans and the atmosphere keeps most sections happy, but something inside me says, I wouldn't be surprised if he keeps us up, he will be off in the summer with his one million pound bonus in tow. I'm sure it's just me reading too much into it, but this is Palace, we never do it the easy way.

Could be, but we'll have a summer to identify a decent replacement. TP is doing a fantastic job but there is life after him. Whether that's in the summer or in ten years time we will part company one day.

Whether we stay up or are relegated, I don't think Pulis will be leaving us anytime soon. For a couple more years, at least. He said the other day that he spends every waking hour thinking and planning on keeping Palace in the Premier League. That he doesn't sleep that well at night because of it. And if we do go down, I think the man's pride will determine he gets back up again and keep us there. He's a miserable but highly determined b*stard. Edited by Everlast (09 Feb 2014 7.57pm)

He signed a 2 1/2 year contract didn't he ? I'm sure any bonus would be linked into him honouring the contract.By the way, what is he exactly meant to say without everyone saying he is just crawling up to people who have been at Palace for years? He's only been here 3 months ! Edited by kennys boots 79 (09 Feb 2014 8.09pm)

Tbh it is very typical of Pulis to show the humility he did in his post match interview. At the moment he may have a special connection with Stoke but he is here to get the job set out at the start of the season. To keep Palace in the premiership. But once we stayed up and maybe if we become an established premier league side, who is to say Pulis won't be here for 10 years and then will have the same emotional connection the club that he currently shares with Stoke?

Edited by Kermit8 (09 Feb 2014 12.13am) I agree, Instead of saying 'us' or 'we' he always refers to the club/team as 'the football club' which is a clear indication that there is no love there at all and its just a job.

cant say i noticed anything in his interviews to suggest that. He seems to show that same passion he had at stoke, while prowling the touchline during matches. Barking orders, remonstrating with officials, and getting excited when we score. What has suprised me is the brand of football we're playing. I said to my dad when he first took charge, that i wouldnt watch "thug football", which is what i think stoke played, under his regime. Direct football is def our style, and a pleasant suprise he's gotten us playing that way. Suits us and our players. The results are there to see. And we've still not taken a tonking off anyone yet.

Far too much sentiment here TP is here to do a job and he is focused and single minded. So what if he doesn't say that he 'loves' us. I don't look for that in a manager just doing the job he's paid for.

I think he's turning already. He's already becoming more and more complimentary about the fans, even broke a smile a couple of times in the past week.

Kerms, Interesting post. However for me this is a case of be careful what you wish for. Surely if anyone, DF was 'one of us' and it didn't take much to turn his head. So those who are one of us are just as likely to do one so all you can get is someone good. James Beattie once said that loyalty in football is only for fans and I think that's the case. To get anything else from paid professionals is pipe dreaming and so rare, which is why Jules is rightly lauded. To expect it from a manager after 3 months is highly unrealistic. But I don't think it has anything to do with any perceived lack of songs, a crowd just isn't that cerebral. And anyway there were 2 renditions of TP red and blue army on Saturday. TP was and is the only manager who can keep us up, if we had gone for Karanka, Meulensteen or Petrescu, we'd be dead in the water now. I remember Stoke fans coming on here and telling us that he is ultra professional and very hands on. I think we can all see that they were very true words. How he has got this group of players to where we are now is nothing short of miraculous. The good thing as well is that the new signings are players that the manager really wanted which will keep him happy. He is the complete opposite of Holloway and boy does it show.

We'll just have to work on him. I mean, he's already bought a Palace baseball cap. In a couple of years he will have had such a fun time he'll have a replica shirt and an eagle tattooed on his back :-)
