West Brom (3) ..... And Away Arsenal (0) This is how I see it at the moment. The only way we can turn a few of those draws and defeats into wins or draws, is by getting a bit more quality and being a bit more clinical going forward. We can't keep relying on stealing a 1-0 win every week because we'll come unstuck eventually. I still think goal difference is going to be massive and it will go to the wire. When do we ever do it easy anyway?!

Well worst case scenario should be 17 points from 45, I think this is within reach, time to put my ear plugs in until the end of the season....I can't fooking bear it!

Don't forget "World Cup" effect. At the end of the season there are going to be big teams, who have already secured places in Europe, but players not wanting an injury before Brazil. There are also going too be players trying to make a mark, to get selected. I predict it's going to be a lot more topsy turvy than you would expect in a normal season. Being a "physical" team will give us an advantage over some of the big boys as the season progresses. I think we will stay up, but it will take a miracle! COYP.

We don't need 17 points. It's now widely accepted that the safety mark is 38 points and in all probability less. Only 3 teams in the last 10 years, from among 30 relegated, have missed that mark. In the same reason a couple of years ago two went down with 39 (including Ollie's Blackpool team -- in a freak year). And Colin's Sheff Utd. team went down on goal difference with 38. The other 27 sides to reach 38 points all stayed up. Indeed, generally 35 or 36 points will see you safe (not that we'd want to risk it). In some years, 32 would have been enough. Be clear, this is a freak season at both ends of the table. Things are very compressed. That being the case it is highly likely that it's a year where not many points will be needed to survive as teams will take points off each other. In 2009/10 the three teams that went down had 30, 30, and 19 points. This season could well throw up similarly low totals. If we get to 38 points, we are nailed on to survive. I suspect 35 will be enough.
that will give me a heart attack. please please please can we do it easier.......

We have some tough games at home but at least we are playing the big boys at Selhurst. If we still had to go to the Ettihad, Old Trafford, Anfield etc then we would be highly likely to be coming out of those games with a fat zero in points. I agree with posters who feel that 35 points or so might be ok, there are so many teams down there and the gulf in class between 1st-9th and 10th-20th is quite apparent this season. Southampton for example are about 5/4 with the bookies to win away at Fulham this weekend! Cardiff have got so many winnable home games so I think they might be good enough. I think Fulham are going to struggle but there are too many points to play for right to try and estimate end of season points. Pulis is setting 40 as a target and will ensure we don't relax and aim for that amount. I think if we can beat Villa and WBA at home we have a good chance, if we can nick anything in the other 5 games that's a bonus. That leaves getting 6-7 points on the road which is achievable. Fulham, West Ham, Cardiff, Sunderland all beatable if they don't show up. Not sure I can handle Craven Cottage us needing a win for survival, hopefully Fulham will already be relegated by then! Staying Up. Believe.

I've put a spreadsheet together showing all the remaining games with a prediction of their outcome, by me, and what the table will look like at the end of season if it goes that way. It's up to date as of last night's results. Happy to share the spready with anyone who wants it. This is my prediction so far .... Manchester City 94

Home: West Brom (3) Away: Arsenal (0) We always seem to beat Liverpool at Selhurst, and i think we might nick a point of Man Ure. 43 points will be enough. Edited by Alexi_the_Eagle (30 Jan 2014 10.47am)
"Look at that. Accident blackspot? These aren't accidents! They're throwing themselves into the road gladly! Throwing themselves into the road to escape all this hideousness!" |

Very doubtful. That would mean we'd need to draw with the bottom teams we have to play and survive on about 27. Try looking at nearer 30 for the bottom 2 teams. If predictions were reliable, people would win 6fold acca's every week. It might work for the Tandridge under 9's 'C' division but not the Prem. Last season in Leagues 1 and 2 the top teams were getting beaten by relegation fighters. Edited by Rudi Hedman (30 Jan 2014 10.47am)

I'm interested to try and get a view from as many people as poss on the resluts for the bottom lot, so pleas play with the spready and let's see if we get a reasonable prediction ...... one that has us staying up of course!

There is no way Cardiff only get 3 points from them fixtures. I mean they have Norwich at home next and I had that down as 3 points for them alone.
