What about when Stoke take CamJam back from us at the 11th hour on deadline day? Unless Murray comes back firing (unlikely after such a serious injury) then we are really going to be struggling up top. We need a striker and a centre back would be nice too.

In light of the daily mail article titled "Huge blow for Martinez as Wigan defender Ramis is sidelined for season with cruciate injury" can I suggest that we don't count on picking up Ivan Ramis from Wigan?

It would not surprise me at all if nobody comes in. Moody is out there at the moment trying to find affordable players but Pulis is not going to accept anybody just because he fits into the budget. He likes players who he has worked with before and who he can trust when the chips are down, hence the interest in Crouch. With all these foreign names being bandied about hes not going to want anyone not willing to run through a brick wall for the cause, any possible signing from the overseas bargain basement is going to be a gamble and there is no way that TP is a maverick manager.

We all know that we have talent, not least johnny williams who was talked of as a premier top four player last season. When TP starts to unleash him it will be better than a few new signings

Unleash him to do what exactly? We lack goals, How many has JW scored in the past 2 seasons?. Whilst JW has excellent ball control he has very little impact on games, Is Injury prone and rarely plays 90 minutes. Cant recall many talking about JW being top 4 Premier League quality player. Bannon is more effective. We definatly need to bring in a CB and at least 1 CF or we will get relegated. Other teams around us are all bringing in players and we have to match their ambition. There is lots of cash in the bank and we still get £40 mil next season if we get relegated. No brainer splash the cash to turn that £40 mil into £75 mil.

I look to the WBA game where we won well with a changed midfield including Williams. Williams doesn't have to score the goals if the team he is in scores them.

There's no reason the formation vs WBA could be an effective plan B that Pulis could utilise should we get hit by injury.

Ideally we would want to bring in better players to augment the squad, but there has to be pragmatism. We have done well thus far without our strikers necessarily hitting their best goal scoring form. Let's give them a chance, and if one or two get suspended/injured at once, we have the fall back of some very promising youngsters who might relish the opportunity of a EPL appearance to springboard their career.

It's a glass half full view, but with the management setup as it is and the general level of performance of the team high, I think there's a lot to be positive about.

D'oh!

It pains me to say it Mr Wrap but I agree with you. We need to have ambition and even more importantly we need to show the world that we have ambition. That doesn't mean that we need to go mad but even one quality player would be good to see arriving

Isn't the thread just a little bit silly? TP has said we need new signings. Iain Moody has been hired (and is being paid) specifically to improve our recruitment. The board can't stop commenting about how they're trying to bring in signings. albeit on a budget. In short, absolutely no one except a few posters on here who presumably know far less about football than any of the aforementioned think NO signings = positive. It ISN'T. With that established, perhaps we can stop wasting time and admit bringing the right players in is key to staying up.

Sydenham by birth. Selhurst by the Grace of God.

And why is it you think that TP has so far decided against 'unleashing' Williams?
Probably because he is far away from the finished article and often makes little impact in games. Don't get me wrong, I rate him and believe he'll be a big player for us but it is stretching it to think he'll even nail down a regular starting place this season.
