A blatant rip-off of old glam rock bands (with an ugly, non-glamourous frontman).

It was my dream to play for Palace and to make my debut. I've always played for the club so if I'm playing here, I wouldn't want to be anywhere else.

- John Bostock (Nov 2007)

But i think that's why i like them.

They are funny. I find it hilarious. They write decent songs but they are also a brilliant parody on all the over-blown glitzy cr@p that peppered the charts.

They're cheesy rock, not really rock and roll. The pop fans like them too which is why they are so annoyingly popular here.

They are a new-ish band. The album that came out the middle of last year was their debut.

The Decline of British Sea Power is their debut album yes. Listening to them at the moment and there is also some early Pulp and The Fall about them.

Regarding the Darkness and the 'hype'. This is far from the truth. They have existed in one form or another since the mid 90's and I was their mix engineer up until around 1999 when they changed their name from Empire to The Darkness and sacked the original singer. What followed was two years of rehearsing, songwriting and auditioning singers before Justin switched from keyboards to vocals. They worked very, very hard gigging the length and breadth of the UK in some of the worst toilets you can imagine. They built their success on their fantastic stage act and managed to sell out the London Astoria without a record deal or a publishing deal. They funded the recording of their album themselves and are now making shed loads of money from it. As a musician it warms my heart that an unfashionable but talented band like them can conquer a music industry so focused on manufactured plastic pop. Vive le rock!
