My head still hurts with the memory. I had a £5 pre-season bet at 33/1 that Palce would win the title. and then another after the orient game when I think it was 2/1. So celebration in all respects afterwards.

As to the pub of choice.. I seem to recall The Grosvenor, somewhere near West Croydon (Youngs pub!) Pints of bitter followed by Tia Maria & vodka chasers!! then getting back to Dover and starting work (or not!!!!) at 6 am... Happy daze!!!

Three memories from the game.
A sudden silence when Burnley put the ball in our net only to be ruled offside.
The deafening roar when Walsh scored (I was in the Arthur, pretty much in line with Vince as he crossed the ball.)
Looking up into the night sky after the match as my late Dad and I cut across the pitch seeing the lights of a plane far above and hoping it was Brighton up there learning WE had pipped them to the championship. Elton John was playing at that very moment.

Happy times and such a great team. Best football I've ever seen from a Palace side. So controlled and skilful.

Mel Blyth's half-hit backpasses ... a thing of beauty (usually to the opposition centre forward)

Amazing atmosphere. I had a real affinity with the players since I was a similar age as them. Remember have a wee in the Suppporters club after the match whilst standing next to George Graham. I went to the game with a former colleague, Mike Screech, who I haven't seen for 25+ years. Often wonder how he is.

I was squashed into the Holmedale with my late Dad. I remember I had taken a sicky off school so was there really early afternoon, and we were one of the first in. Incredibly nervy night, with a great ending. One strange memory was it hardly got a mention in the paper the next Morning as it was played on a Friday and it was the cup final the next day.

Burridge, Hinshelwood, Sansom, Nicholas, Cannon, Gilbert, Murphy, Kember, Swindlehurst, Hilaire, Walsh. 2-0 V Burnley and over 51000 inside San Selhurst. What a team. What a night!
I managed to squeeze into the ground with my late Mum and Dad, younger Brother and wife to be to witness a memorable night.
It WILL happen again, sometime! Keep the faith.

absolutely magic. more like 55000 plus. they were climbing the walls the gates, and forced the double gates open. i was with me late dad and a few mates. im so glad i was with my father to witness that match. and of course many others. was in the arthur half way up the terrace just off the halfway ine holmdale side.voice had gone for the next 3 days. when walsh stuck that header in,,eruption . i swear i coud have liffted both feet off the ground on the way out and still got carried along.
