Big Sam is past it now, and the idea that any number of former players are suddenly going to rescue us is ridiculous.

Unless there is a clearly better option than what we have, then I say we should carry on with Hodgson.

It should be remembered that we have actually won two of our last four games. The difference in our performances came down to having star players available and the calibre of opposition.

Brentford and Sheffield were games we should win. Arsenal and Brighton, like it or not, were not.

It's clear that our injury problems have been the route of our poor performance this season. Had we had a full squad available, we would have more points and there would be no frenzy about sacking the manager. That is a fact.

As it is. There is no certainty that any change in management will improve results.

Olise may be out for the remainder of the season. Eze might too. We haven't won a single game this season without them and I agree we likely would have more points if they'd stayed fit for longer, but they haven't and Roy has stuck steadfastly to playing a team with no creativity in their absence. It's not just about his unwillingness to play Franca or one of the other side-lined players but it's also been his inability to find an alternative method of creating opportunities in their absence, whether that be reverting to 442 with OE and JPM, using the wings more and bombarding teams with crosses, etc.

I'm not an experienced manager, but when Olise and Eze are out Roy looks clueless. They are likely both out for a long period. He never solved the conundrum when Wilf was out in his previous reign. Will another manager improve things? Who knows, but we need fresh ideas and right now a new manager might at least galvanise the fans and players who are all looking increasingly downtrodden. Sticking with the same horse midrace is a worthy statement, but not when it's gone lame. Load the gun Steve, it's time to put the old horse out of its misery.

I think Monday night will be like an episode of the Masked Singer. Prior to the game three characters in costumes will appear on the pitch. They will be a beer barrel, a koala bear and a geriatric old goat.

With their voices disguised they will each state their case to be appointed as manager of Palace.

As the crowd shout take it off, take it off, take it off the beer barrel removes his head and it is Steve Cooper (barrel - cooper, get it?) He receives mild applause.

Next up is the koala bear. Take it off, take it off, take it off. To everybody's surprise it is Tony Popovic who comes to his senses and tells Parish where to keep the job.

The only one left is the senile old goat. Nobody shouts take it off this time as by now we all know we are stuck with this character until the end of the season.

Personally, I thought this situation was getting a bit too Ted Lasso.
Based on that, if we go down, we should come back up and win the Premier League the following season.

If true, and Hodgson & Co know, can you think of anything more demotivating?

To be fair Hodgson knows he only has a maximum of 15 games left with us anyway. At least this way he gets his contract paid up early and hasn't got another relegation under his belt. Win win for him!

This is obviously the conundrum that the board have.

There is no right answer.

There is always the chance of a new manager bounce but even with that, I believe that the statistical success of changing managers in a relegation battle is poor.

Clearly, what Hodgson has done without our best players has failed. That could be tactics or simply that they aren't good enough.
I think he has to try something new with what we have now.

If that fails, then we are left with desperate options.

Couldn't agree more with this post. Those clamouring for Paddy, Derry, Popovic or Jedinak to replace a vastly experienced manager who we have now, must be mad. It's a last roll of the dice, but I honestly think the last chance we had of significantly changing anything was the January transfer window. Our attacking options are no better than before. SP and the board have gambled that we have enough. All 3 relegated teams changed their manager last year and failed with the new manager.

Sam Allardyce is as much as a dinosaur as Roy, and more of a busted flush. He failed miserably with West Brom and couldn't wait to get away from us asap. Probably because he knew the board wouldn't back him.

As far as I'm concerned, we probably already have as good a option as we are going to get, to keep us up. At best that is 50/50.

Roy should have left at the end of last season, but once again that rests with SP and the board. Many of us pointed it out before the season started that the squad wasn't strong enough. If we go down, to me the blame rests purely with the Board.

You have completely missed his point (or just chosing to ignore because its not want you want to hear). What he is getting at is the main reason for our poor form is a terrible injury list that has gone on all season so far. Had we had Olise and Eze and Doucoure available for the whole of this season we would be 8 to 10 points better off and no one would be talking about relegation whether they hate Roy's style of football or not. That is a fact.
I'd only agree with the 'see you in the Championship next season' comment if the injury problems go on for the rest of the season.

This is part of a post I put earlier this afternoon on another thread:

"We have 15 games left to play. We've only managed 3 wins and 3 draws in our last 15 and we had Eze and Olise for the last 2 wins. in other words we had one win in that run without the two of them being on the pitch and that one win (Burnley) saw Eze come on for the last 30 minutes to provide the assist for Mitchell's last minute goal.
If we look at the 15 games to come and the results in the reverse fixtures earlier this season, we had
- 2 wins v Wolves (h) and Man U (away)
- 4 draws v Fulham (h), Forest (h), West Ham (away) and Man C (away)
- 9 (yes NINE) defeats."

The above are facts (not opinions). Another fact is that Hodgson was in charge of all of those last 15 games.

With Olise out, possibly for the rest of the season, and both Eze and Guehi out for the next few weeks, I would suggest that, given, Hodgson's record in the reverse fixtures (and the probability that, on paper at least, the more winnable games are those coming up) relegation is looking a genuine possibility if Hodgson stays and continues to stick to his Plan A (which seems to be his only plan). Indeed, it is possible, given the results in the reverse fixtures and the improved form of the two teams we beat, that we could fail to win a single game in the rest of this season.

Allowing Hodgson to continue is IMO, (and yes that's an opinion) the riskier of the two options in light of the above facts.

This is a defining moment. Looks like we will have Roy for Chelsea and since expectations regarding the outcome of this game are low this would be the time to throw out the usual 'Plan A' and go with something different. It's a free pass to try to change the narrative because no one will blame him if it fails. At least no more than now.

Munoz and Wharton have had more time to seat in; if we were to come out with some of the kids (meaning the players recently acquired that Roy has refused to play) it might change things up enough to get us a result.

Just throwing the usual suspects out there and expecting a different result will show that Roy really doesn't know what he is doing any longer. He needs to grab onto this as the opportunity it is. Just my two cents.

If Cooper doesn’t join at this stage then I can’t see who else will.
Certainly not Potter nor Lopetagui who are the other high profile out of work managers.
It may be that we are in a bizarre situation that Roy is willing to step down, but can’t because we find a replacement we want or can get.
In which case Roy is a reluctant manager and when fans shout ‘Hodgson Out!’ he can legitimately respond ‘If Only!’
Maybe in a year or so there will be another documentary in which case Parish will say it was all under control and in Sunak’s words ‘We had a plan’

That's the crux though, he's had ample opportunities to try something new and the best he came up with was playing three centre-backs and five defensive minded players in front of them. I just don't see him changing anything unless he absolutely has to and expecting that he will is increasingly becoming more a plea to the Gods than any real belief. As the much cited cliché goes, doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results is the sign of insanity (a bit like me constantly refreshing the news to see if Roy's been sacked yet!)

Whatever happens and whoever he picks on Monday the whole crowd needs to put its antagonism to one side and support the team like never before.
That support could get us a result and so the team need to know they will get applauded not booed all the way through.
Chelsea are awful and there for the taking!
