Potter would be my main choice. He is not a top 5 manager but he is someone who can get you top 10 consistently which is probably Palace's next aim and it is realistic. Last 5 league positions: 11th, 12th, 14th, 14th and 12th. You also have Carrick, Rodgers and Cooper. But I would rather have Potter. Players like AWB and Mitchell got chances due to huge injuries. I am certain there are other players in the academy who can play in the EPL (either fully or off the bench) e.g. Ozoh, Ola Adebomi, Imray, Adaramola) Edited by Zaha127 (06 Jan 2024 10.17am) You've left out Paulo Fonseca & Oliver Glasner

Monkey. If you have not watched many Palace games, Schlupp did not play left wing for Leicester, neither did Edouard for Celtic. Ahahmada is a box-to-box midfielder, Franca is a No 10, neither of them are right wingers. Richards is a centre back, starting in midfield, switched to right back when Clyne went off. Eze cannot play on the wing, we know that. That is why the team is unbalanced and unable to do anything than defend in numbers, 2 banks of 4 on the edge of the box. When we go a goal down we are screwed. Got lucky at Man City, not to be confused with Hodgson's tactical brilliance. Don’t start all that bollocks because someone dares to disagree with you, because my guess is I probably did hundreds of games before you were even born. Anyway incase you struggle to read, I said I agreed with you about Roy, I just didn’t agree with you bigging up Ipswich because they play an attractive style of play in the CHAMPIONSHIP!! As you seem to know it all, have you been in touch with Roy to put him right? Edited by monkey (06 Jan 2024 12.56pm)

I don't mean to be negative but why would O'Neill, McKenna, Carrick or Rodgers leave their current jobs to come to Palace? As for Potter, he's waiting to get the England job when Southgate leaves. In the unlikely event that Newcastle sack Howe, he would expect to get the England job too, He won't come to Palace. So that leaves us with the two most likely candidates - Cooper or Southgate. And I'm not saying I'd be thrilled with either option. Unless Dougie can unearth a De Zerbi from somewhere. Then again, there's always Neil Warnock...

I wouldnt think McKenna is on 5m a year like Hodgson, and we have a stong selection of players, probably 120m available if we sell say Olise and Andersen, that should get 4/5 decent players, i think that Iraola and Kompany would ge good, if you want to find someone to gamble on, Michel at Girona (Dreamwaver mentioned him) or Will Still from Reims

None of these managers will come to CPFC. The PL exists solely for the accumulation of money, managers want some to spend, and we have none until we start selling our assets.

My choice at the end of the season, if available, would be Rob Edwards. Think he's doing a brilliant job with Luton who look well organised and show a good balance technical / physical / organised and he speaks well of his team and seems to be getting a lot from them. They're obviously on an upward trajectory and have similar spirit to us during 2013-14 which helps.

I’d love an Edwards, Cooper, Howe or McKenna for this reason however I feel as though they would be short lived appointments. Quite frankly, about 95% of managers post-Roy would likely pick the team up and have them playing with a bit of freedom, energy and enthusiasm. That always seems to have a limited life span however like we saw with Pardew/PV, and may well see with Howe at Newcastle, that momentum and lease of life soon fades so we could well be on the hunt for a Hodgson, Allardyce, Pulis etc again. That seems like a bit of an overly negative or worrysome post, plus I’m not saying I’m 100% correct of course, however I think that should be factored into considerations
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

I don't see any manager getting this group to play front foot football. It's the worst balance since 13-14. At the expense of sounding negative / repetitive I cant see us progressing until we replace both full backs. Ward and Clyne are getting the attention but Mitchell is a reserve at Premier league level and is getting a free pass because he came from the academy.

Yeah, I don’t want to pile on but that mirrors my thoughts. I don’t begrudge people their criticisms of Roy but I still think we’re about 4 players off being able to play a more positive brand of football.

So Monkey, as you have watched hundreds of Palace games more than me, you must be aware that Roy plays players out of position in an unbalanced team? No point me contacting Roy to tell him, if Dougie and Paddy have no influence, that would be pointless. Just looking forward to the day he finally leaves.
