What terrifies me is that the right thinks that is actually a joke, when it's not in the least bit funny.

Of course, everyone feels the greatest sympathy for those involved. It's an awful tragedy and the perpetrator needs to be condemned in the strongest terms.

What though it mustn't lead to is a hatefest directed at those who are equally innocent and associated only by a shared faith.

Without knowing the context of the statement it's difficult to know where to place it and if it was intended to dampen down an unwarranted response.

The French came to their senses just in time. I fear though that they might not the next time and have their "Trump" moment. What that would do to the EU, and to their relationship with us, is difficult to anticipate, but it doesn't look positive.
