There's so little difference, in relative terms, we might as well get this done and dusted before the US tour. If he gets us in the top half next season he'll have paid back that extra £3m upfront in spades. Every bit of this.
Time to move forward together. |

Not worth over £30m Liverpool are taking the p**s they only paid £32.5m and he had a poor season so expecting to price him at around that is not good £27m is a fair price. With how much we look to be spending have to finish in top half if we do like last season manager has to go.

The figures I heard banded about on the radio mean next season the difference between 15th & 10th on the EPL is around £30m in income. Edited by Nobbybm (05 Jul 2016 2.19pm)

Given the fees that are being touted for various players at the moment, it doesn't seem unreasonable. If we want the player - who has the ability to score 15 goals in the PL without question - and Liverpool know that we are a more desperate buyer currently than they are seller (because other clubs will come in later in the market and we could get gazumped) then I think we have to accept our negotiating position. Even at £30m+ I think it could be the sort of deal that propels the club to the next level. Defensively we were not terrible last season, but we needed a decent goalscorer.

Absolutely, if Dwight Gayle is worth £10m to a Championship club then £30m for Benteke is about right.

Benteke is certainly a good player, the kind we need to take us forward. Still, I can't help but worry. I let the board do the worrying, it's their money and if they believe it's affordable then let's go in balls deep. I never thought I'd see Palace bid £15m for a player, let alone £30m however if he has a couple of cracking seasons who's to say we can't make a profit out of this deal?

Liverpool are insisting on £30m cash. No ifs, no buts. Our second offer of£27m + add ons firm rejected. Do we meet their valuation or look elsewhere?? Personally, feel we need to get the deal done as apparently, other sides looking on and may meet the asking price.

I've had a rethink. Earlier on in the thread I said we should leave this one and move on. Taking all things in to consideration, I think we should max out at 30 mil and no more. He had a poor season and is now a year older so that should be the drop from what they purchased him from Villa. Now lets get this done, and dream of not being in a relegation scrap next season. We could even make Europe! Cup final ticket scramble again maybe.

To me this seems like the one opportunity we're going to get this window to do this sort of deal. If it slips through our fingers, for the sake of £3m, then we're going to be looking at this year's Connor Wickhams (i.e. those prepared to come to Palace that have a half-decent chance of making a mark), and I wonder how much they've gone up in price since we bought him.

In the scheme of things I can't believe 2010 will lose the deal over £3m! Over a season I'm fairly sure his goals will recoup the extra outlay and on top of that stick an extra 500k on the valuation of Mutch, Chungy, Williams, Hennesey etc when clearing out the chaff!
