Didn't do a lot for Cardiff and when he came back there was no end product. We were scoring about 40 a season with Zaha assisting about 3. My point however is that if we had a Zaha now, he wouldn't be a Zaha because he wouldn't get that championship learning. You get there by playing. A player at the level from 2010 and about 4+ years after wouldn't get in. Sad but true. It's the system, not the player that's at fault. He could earn his stripes out on loan but I think we know he likes to feel at home. Must take more character than we appreciate, having to be loaned out here there and everywhere. He played about 7 games for Cardiff in a car trash team having lost confidence and form with what happened at united , he also hadnt played first team football for months and not to mention if the rumours are to be believed that he didn't even want to go to Cardiff. I agree with the rest of the what you are saying with regard to his development , but there is no doubt in my mind he was ready for the prem when he moved , and that if sir Alex had stayed he would still be at united now.

Regarding sir Alex we will never know and he is the master at bringing through youngsters. You'll never see a team back up and look after their young teammates on the pitch like his team's did. Every time a youngster had the ball you could see it in their body language. Excellent if it's your team. Really healthy. But we're talking him or others with us. Maybe Zaha would've been better at the time he came back if he never actually left, but the fact there was very little end product and very little in the way of assists for a winger for quite a while after he came back, I'd say the evidence would suggest not. Many people were prepared for him to be sold. It's the last 2 seasons he's been fantastic, ironically exceptional when Pardew started his 12 month run of 6 league wins. So really it was 18 months of frustration, then 6 months of MOTM in Pardews sh1t and then pure excellence last season. For all the grief Ahearer got, he actually said he needs to produce more, which he had to, and did. It wasn't there for a while. The system is stacked against them. It's stacked against de Boer and others. De Boer might excel with early 20's Europeans though.

What are your expectations if de Boer appointed ? I say first target 40pts anything else a bonus in his 1st season . That will always be the target for clubs like us. Anywhere between 10th. and 15th. is respectable with our budget and support. I think de Boer is a reasonable choice, I hope he can change our style of play a bit and cut out those useless long balls. Time will tell.

It will be an interesting transition. I'm looking forward to the next instalment. (that is not my assessment of BFS's teams btw, before I offend anyone. I think it was Mourinho's).

I can't see it being announced until next week, need to finalise everything over the weekend and you know how slow Palace are to confirm anything. It's interesting that after weeks of absolute silence the offer of the position to FDB has hit the headlines everywhere so the leak was obviously deliberate. There will be a delay until Steve Parish has finished his third holiday of the summer (allegedly)

Can't wait for this to be done and dusted. Exciting times ahead. Give de Boer time and we can have an academy to be proud of. He is a talented coach but not a magician. I'm guessing that his expertise at bringing through youngsters at Ajax had something to do with the talent pool available to him as the only major club in the city whereas we tend to sign youngsters in a blaze of publicity who subsequently never make it.

I see no reason but to look at this optimistically. I think the most popular choice and for me included was Pellegrino but it's safe to say it's hard to really know what we'd be in for with either. I couldn't shake off this feeling that Pellegrino was a one hit wonder who had done nothing much of note until he had a good season with an unfancied club then promptly left. There was always something Pardewesque about his achievements so I'm glad that we went the Dutch route. If the board back him with a couple of decent signings (especially a quality centre half) then I don't think that anyone can blame Parish if it all goes pear shaped
