Not a fan of his subs but tactically he has been spot on. I can assure you without them we’d be going down. When your best centre half is a 35 year old, if you play out from the back you are going to get picked off every single week. We’d be gone a long time ago if it wasn’t for Roy and the ungratefulness shown towards him for his achievements at the club are desperately sad. I agree with the general thrust of these sentiments.

If our existing manager is not going to be with us next season, surely this the time to install a new manager for next season so he can assess what he is is inheriting so he can start thinking about the changes that have to be made, especially with so many being out of contract. That's still an '' if ''.

They won't justify Roy's tactics or subs because there is no way of justifying it. Even when Pardew was going gun-ho I could see he realised we wouldn't keep a clean sheet so his tactics were to try and outscored the opposition. Hodgson just things trying the same thing again will work.... one of his tactics does work well. His PR skills. He'll come out before a game listing all the reasons why the team we are playing are better than us, then afterwards he'll claim we were unlucky and that their goal was a worldie. Someone baby boomber will just come out and stay something like "you know nothing about football". You cannot think this is a logical way to approach a game of football? 'Oh we cant stop conceding so we'll just try to outscore the opposition instead..' Roy's tactics have kept us in the league comfortably each season since he's joined. I'm not bothered about why our set pieces are bad (goals to set pieces are very low anyway) or why certain players out of contract are still playing. I agree his subs could be more adventerous but our midfield 2 get run ragged every week and you could argue thats where we need the fresh legs. At the beginning of each season, fans moan about the lack of investment in the team (me included) and some say this will be the year we go down but by the end of each season all of that talk is forgotten because we've survived another season with games to spare and Roy still gets stick..

Who the hell appointed you to be moderator and "call" people out for their views. Those of us who do not agree with you and others about Roy have been called deluded many times, yet I've never seen you call them out. Well I wouldn’t would I because I don’t believe they are. How’s your know all Leicester mate who knows everything about football and said we should have had a result even though, errrrr, we didn’t? Opinions and results are two entirely different things.

I don't think it was negative or boring either. What is frustrating is the number of warning signs we didn't heed before they got their second. Why not bring McCarthy on at that point to freshen the midfield and put pressure on the ball? Why not bring on Schlupp at that point into the middle to retain possession better and relieve some pressure? Why not bring Kelly on and go to a back 5 to reduce the amount of space Dann has to cover (Leicester said they deliberately targeted that space CB to FB)? I totally recognise the squad isn't in good shape - our defensive options are a shambles. My disappointment comes from the management's seeming stubbornness to do anything to positively impact the game before we go behind - the need for which is all the greater when the players aren't up to scratch for a full 90. I think all of your opinions are fair but the subs not clear cut in respect of the way the game was panning out. VG had barely had to make a save. In Roy's defence he brought Townsend on for the ineffective Ayew, presumably to try to get us playing in their half more, a couple of minutes before they scored. IMO the difference was the sheer amount of players they have capable of burying a half chance and our inability on the day to convert very good ones.

In fairness, you've seen a lot of his faults. I wouldnt say Pardew's approach was a particularly good one. It was complete desperation when we realised relying on a bench of Ward, Hangerland, Delaney, and Kelly with Zeki Fryers on the bench. I think the squad is in much better shape now.

It's not one or the other. Yes, the squad isn't great but it could be used better. For a start, anyone who won't renew their contract - why play them? Why not give their replacements time now to get used to the first team? Why are our team so unfit? Why are we rubbish at set pieces? Why do we seem to have a plan A and nothing else? Why does Benteke start every game? Why drop deep so much? Why not interchange the wide players? Why not cross, particularly if we are always using Benteke? Why the aversion to either Tactical or fresh legs substitutions? Yep. It’s more tiring watching it than playing in it behind the ball all day.

Very diplomatic. So 1 win against a newly promoted side and you are hailing Hodgson as the second best manager in the clubs history. Roy is doing exactly what is expected of him this season. No better, no worse. It will take to the end of December before we no if he’s doing a good job or not. Pullis and BFS left the club because they were ambitious and employable. Roy will not get another job after Palace. Watch this space...
Jackson.. Wan Bissaka.... Sansom.. Nicholas.. Cannon.. Guehi.... Zaha... Thomas.. Byrne... Holton.. Rogers.. that should do it.. |
