It doesn’t provoke me. It feels in touch with today’s world. I have largely given up sending cards as have many it seems, so how widespread it is, is difficult to know. When I was younger I never bothered today I do. It is probably silly but there is still a small thrill when it drops on your mat and it's not a bill.

I get your point, which I had not considered. The truth though is that I rarely sent cards to anyone other than those I am in regular contact with anyway.

Nor do I. Neither of us has to either. We have the choice too. Our parents thought just the same. Then we became parents and grandparents ourselves and the wheel turned. The point is to come to terms with it, rather than try to change things that will either change as the young mature, or don't change because what they have done is better. It's just unimportant. So many more important issues to be concerned about. The difference is that social media has allowed all sorts of nutcases and extremists to spread their nonsense far and wide.

How that affects the future is unclear but it’s certainly a new and challenging factor. We are living through the post truth age. One in which lies are truth and truth lies. Reality is anything you want it to be.

It's really heartening to learn that ex marketing and sales managers are only really interested in what the truth is. They are truly concerned if people might be mislead by anything countering what they believe is the truth. Thank god for sales and marketing....our true pathway to enlightenment. What I'm sure everybody knows is that the business of marketing and sales is about presenting people with the truth and isn't about influencing them towards buying products because of the company paying them to do it. It's all about what's best for you. No, you can trust people who spent successful careers in that. There's no self interest involved here, it's about a concern for you instead. It's about being interested in you receiving the truth. Edited by Stirlingsays (18 Dec 2022 11.59am)

In a commercial world the job of every employee is aimed at maximising the return to the owners. In any well run business that won’t happen for very long unless you deliver what the customers need. The job of the marketing department is primarily to ascertain what that it is that the company makes, or could make, that meets those needs, to get the company to make it and then to explain it to potential customers. There is nothing mutually incompatible with the company’s, and their customer’s, best interests. Those who think otherwise are confusing sales and marketing professionals with con merchants who are as despised by the professionals as by everyone else. If sales and marketing didn’t exist most of the goods you now use in your daily life wouldn’t exist and you would again be out foraging to maintain your existence. The bottom line is that everyone has a choice so they first need to find trust. A good business understands that and builds trust. You see bad intentions behind everyone.

This thread seems to have turned into a 2-3 way personal character commentary, having absolutely nothing whatsoever, zero, zilch, nada, to do with Conservative government incompetence.

Apologies. Seconded. Maybe a new diverted card could be attached to any post that takes a thread off track. For instance on posts that are directed at things like "Happy Christmas being erased by progressives", "elites", "high-minded liberals", or are jumping onto hobby horses like where somebody lives, or monitoring "anti-white" activity. All of which have nothing to do with Government incompetence, but have appeared in this thread.
