I was hoping he was going to self combust the pompous two faced git.

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance.

No, it was a promise openly made, and on record, immediately after the 2019 GE and before Brexit and Covid dominated the headlines.

Those genuinely interested in the detail were invited to PM me, and did so.

As a great man once said "“Who is more foolish? The fool or the fool who follows him?”

Starmer's speech yesterday.

Life’s but a walking shadow, a poor player
That struts and frets his hour upon the stage
And then is heard no more: it is a tale
Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury,
Signifying nothing.

I get it that Boris needs to go - this is no way to run a Country.
However - as a Tory and as someone who cannot see anyone in the Labour Party who I see as any better than Boris I think he should stay in the short term whilst the blues get their house in order and they find a new Leader in their time and not in haste.
To be honest - I am not sure there is a politician in any party that I think could lead - maybe Sunak?
With Boris/Starmer/Sturgeon/Drakeford and Biden and Trump we are in a right old pickle, whatever our political views!

Out of interest, who do you see as the next potential leader? Rishi Sunak is clear favourite with the bookmakers, with Liz Truss second. That is likely their concern, that despite the damage done, they're not exactly overflowing with leadership material. The same could of course also be said about Labour.

One bit of humour that grabbed me yesterday , was Boris being berated in the HoC by that pleb Andrew Mitchell, for bad conduct.

That report says that these things shouldn't have happened even allowing for the fact that No10 was a workplace and difficult to adapt for Covid regs and so on.
However - she has just reported that things happened that we all know about so as such Boris can get his way out of it.
I am bored with it now anyway.
I accept it was wrong as I accept the emotive points in particular where people lost loved ones and couldn't visit loved ones.
The Met will fine people no doubt but if they don't fine Boris then he escapes.
Also this cannot just be about one man - it is about a lot of Civil Servants as well - let's not forget that!
It will be on with business, get through the local elections and after that he will be replaced - by who goodness only knows though.
A complete rabble - the lot of them!

Ah, you've come round.

The point that people are getting exercised by a bit of cake when the Russians are "at the door" is a good one in terms of proportion. However, notwithstanding the critical principle of making the rules and then living within them, as well as displaying honesty and integrity one expects and needs from our senior world leader, there is also the point that this "rabble" made the distraction in the first place.

I say this every time this question comes up. Dan Jarvis needs to stop being mayor of bloody Sheffield and get himself back into parliament. No luggage, as far as I know, leads a very lefty area, thus keeping close to the left, a decorated war hero as major in the Paras which will draw many on the right, and clever enough to appeal to the middle.

His only issue is he may be reluctant to descend to the current mania for one-syllable strap lines so beloved of the populist right who patronize the people with (depressingly) great success.

It’ll be someone else IMO

The economy is in dire straits and the Sunak will take the bullet for the tax hikes and rising inflation. He’s been riding on the crest of the furlough wave so far but cost of living and the wages tax will see him dive in popularity.

Truss has the poisoned chalice of the Northern Ireland protocol to deal with. Brexit is far from done. The near irreconcilable problem of the Irish border is still there - at some point someone is going to need to carry the can for entering a treaty that Boris never intended to honour.

Boris making a quick exit to deal with the Russians, fills me will as much confidence as seeing an alcoholic being left in charge of a vodka distillery.

Leadership is not a popularity contest.

Whoever replaces Johnson will have to steer through inflation, fuel prices and the NI proposed increase etc etc.

I think we need to look outside the betting.

Tugendhat, Baker, Wallace all decent prospects for me.

All seem to have integrity and common sense.
