Lots of opinions on the AWB question. The fact is in effect we're circa £50mio better off than we were 18 months ago if we sell him, let's not forget he only got in the side cos Wardy got injured, would be have got a chance otherwise ? No one wants to sell our best players, that is obvious, but needs must and in the financial position we find ourselves we cannot look a gifthorse in the mouth...we simply have to take the cash if it's anywhere north of £50mio. Unpalatable maybe but that's unfortunately how any club outside the top 6 would see this. I'd be a lot more worried if Wilf goes bearing in mind everything seems to go through him. AWB we can replace, Wilf we cannot.

I'm bored now. OK, let's see how it works out if we sell AWB and return to this at the end of the season. If we have a good season then I will have no choice but to admit that we survived without him. Fans who are happy to see AWB leave, like the tit currently on SKY sports from BOTN, clearly have the kind of ambition for the club that has kept us from ever winning anything ever. It is imperative that the club builds a bigger stadium and expands its football revenue streams or we are sunk. Selling the likes of AWB won't help there either.

Opinions are like Assholes everyone has them, and some stink. My opinion, is that is we will get labelled as a selling club and never be anything else. AWB is a young lad with the world (literally) at his feet. At this stage in his career I think going to a big club would stifle his development, but I'm guessing the big bucks are calling. However as per every season we have been in the prem, we will be last off the blocks in the window, probably sell AWB for 50 million on deadline day, and leave ourselves short of a decent right back, or end up paying over the odds for a replacement or make do with Kelly at right back until the Jan window. Typical Palace transfer activity awaits is my gut feeling. The media dept at Palace pushing Sortloth did nothing to quell my fears, nor did Luka turning down his offer. It’s not lacking in ambition to sell a full back with 50 games for us

We have no reason to sell to anyone outside the top 6 and if we do it'll only be for serious wedge. In days gone by (and not long ago) if someone like Everton for example wanted a Palace player, we'd have to sell him. Now we'd tell them to f*** off. Progress of sorts !

Do you accept that Palace are running at a loss? Looking at the accounts, we made a loss, 2017-18, because our net transfer spend was £50. 2018-19 it should be in the region of £10. Moreover, we have released more players, permanently, than taken on, 8 out, to 4 in. Also, during the last season more players went out on loan to than that came, 5 against 3. This does not include academy players loaned out or released. Apart from 1 or 2 pay increases, (Wilf) I would have thought our wage bill has actually decreased. This summer 3 players have already gone, with 1 more likely, and 2 or 3 loan players. 5 loanees do return, buts that's it, so I would expect our wage bill to have lowered further. Our income 2017-18 was 150m but spent 184m, (50m net spend on transfers) hence the 34m loss. But deduct 40m from 184, we have, 144m, a profit or 6m if our income remained the same. Given a potential 5% increase in revenue, as seen in 2017-18, then our revenue was 157m. Since we had a longer cup run, I think that is possible. Now, we may still be paying delayed transfer fees, but I have no way of calculating that. So 157m minus 144m, a profit of 13.5m, similar to the season before last.
I am not a bot. No, seriously, I'm not. |

As explained before, the net transfer spend was £40m but only about £10 of that would have been recognised in those accounts as the value is ammortised over the duration of a contract. We are not running at a profit and are being propped up by director loans.

A daft comparison. Both those clubs can attract quality replacements. Not at all. The money could easily be reinvested to buy players that could avoid relegation (which you were prophesying) and ,if wisely done, improve our position

For someone who complains about words being put into your mouth, you are quite the hypocrite No idea how many games. I started watching when they were in Division 2 in the 1960's

If we need to sell then the money won't be invested in players. We would need another right back for starters. This club does not need profit. It needs players.
