For a country with a population of 4 million Croatia gave them a bloody good game.

Not much point debating whether it was or was not a pen, it didn't make any difference to the result

I think Croatia saved their best performance for England, getting to the final was enough for them

You cannot say things like that because goals change games. France should never have been in front and France being in front definitely changes the game.

Also when people say they could’ve been 3 up instead of isn’t necessarily right because again, a goal changes the game and tactics.

agreed. If it was level terms, Croatia would not have committed themselves so much, gifting France with more goals. Was a penalty though.

and whilst on the subject. What was that during the medal ceremony, pours with rain and Putin and Infantino have an umbrella covering them immediately, but Kitarović and Macron are both left to get drenched.

I was kind of hoping her top was seethru when wet though.

Agreed. ‘The Butterfly Effect’. Everything that happens influences what follows.

Don't disagree but my main point is France were the better side at the end of the day and that pen decision was not crucial, Croatia can have no complaints. France would have still won, they soaked up the Croatia pressure and picked them off on the break

Well another world cup, over England looking at what might have been, but still a good show by them.
Well done Russia for a well run tournament, after all the fears there was none,
Not to many games you could say was exciting,England games aside,im not saying we was better than the others just the run to the semis was fun while it lasted,
Best 2 games for me was Portugal Spain and Belgium japan, the rest was more like a chess game, dont know how much the heat played apart,
So next world cup in a small country that heat is 120 in the shade good luck with that one

In your own inimitable way, you are making a great point. Traditional European powers in football would be nowhere without player from former colonies. For France, it goes back to Zinedine Zidane through the present crop that includes Paul Pogba and Mbappe. For England, John Barnes and Cyrille Regis through Raheem Sterling. John Salako, before his crushing knee injury was a mainstay in the England lineup although he also qualified for Nigeria. They lost out on Wil because they dithered and he lost patience with them. Even Germany relies on immigrants and former colonials; Oezil, Boateng, etc. Wilf may be ahead of his time by choosing Cote d'Ivoire over England but the day is coming when players will loose patience with European countries and play for their heritage nations.

Germany did fine before mass immigration and didn’t need colonialism to win World Cups. Neither did Italy or Spain more recently.

France need or benefit from African-French players because Rugby is the national sport and not football. But please don’t say European football or international teams are being propped up by African immigrants because that’s rubbish.

Croatia were really good apart from the first half v England and ironically a team full of ‘slavs’ Hitler would’ve preferred.

Your opinion is rubbish because Spain or Italy or Germany will win the World Cup again with an all white team. I don’t care but it’s true.

Well it's caught up to most of them. Italy and the Netherlands didn't qualify, Germany went out in the group stage and Spain in the round of 16. Better get a wider net to attract top class players for these countries. PS, one of the reason the USA didn't qualify was alienating youth development programs geared towards Central and South American immigrant players. A great prospect just slipped through our hands and is with Mexico.
