People complaining about the government need to start looking at Kensington & Chelsea council instead. The council (not central government) decided to spend the money on a superficial refurbishment instead of stuff that really matters like sprinklers and fire compartmentation materials.

I'm in a trade that supplies goods to the building industry and is heavily linked to fire containment/prevention, and I can confirm that if the afore mentioned things had been carried out instead of pretty cladding, then the advice given to stay in their flats would have been correct, as any fire would have been contained within the area it started for approximately 60 minutes, giving the fire brigade plenty of time to get in and extinguish it before it could spread.

I doubt the cost would have been much different either (although stand to be corrected on that).

Very true and reminds me of the editorial in the Evening Standard the day (or maybe it was the day after) the Clapham Junction disaster. "For the last x years Network South East [the part of British Rail then responsible for track and services in this part of England, before privatisation] has been painting every lamppost on every station in the south-east of England red". Instead of making sure that signalling systems were safe. Or words to that effect.

Apparently not much has changed.

I don't know how you feel you are in a position to judge 'the mood of the nation' but I suspect you've aligned yourself with the rabble bearing SWP, Momentum and other banners who've hijacked this tragedy in furtherance of their own political agenda.

It was you, Gusset, who first (distastefully) politicised this thread and, apart from a couple of muted platitudes, your whole tone on it has been a continuation of your "f*ck the Tories" attitude displayed in proliferation elsewhere on these boards.

I will go further, Gusset, and put it to you that you shed crocodile tears over this event while you and others of your kind, the Corbyns, McDonnells, Jones' and and all the other Trotskyites now controlling the Labour Party are in fact rubbing your hands with glee at this opportunity to sow the seeds of further division in the country.

Well done. It's working.

I will go still further, Gusset, and say that I think you are a loathsome, despicable example of humanity. You've well and truly overstepped the mark.

Personal abuse it may be, but I stand by every word.

Well said! Between you, you and Pikester have hit the nail very firmly on the head, and along with both of you, I am sick and tired of Gusset's hijacking of every thread on any subject.

Any colour card for this would be most unfair - to me it's not personal abuse, it's merely telling the truth!

No the truth needs telling. The people in Grenfell Tower died unnecessarily. A report from the last fire in Lambeth gave recommendations that may have prevented all of these deaths. Several housing ministers ignored the report. They are culpable, whatever party they are from.

I've not once mentioned Corbyn or labour in this thread (other than saying previous governments have some responsibility) so don't five that party political bollocks. People have died unnecessarily through saving a few quid on panels. It's not good enough.

Remember that time you contributed something of interest to this forum rather than grandstanding or sniping from the sidelines? No, neither can I.

In my lifetime I can't remember a more disloyal and inept collection of people charged with running a country.

From Cameron's decision to hold the referendum and then fvck off when it didn't go his way through to a situation where the cuts are so deep that every aspect of our society is broken. Now they want to cut a deal with th DUP.

Then we've got the pathetic cretin Johnson who barely looks capable of managing his personal hygiene postulating and sound biting. Utter Cvnt.

After the exhausted emergency services have been dragged in from all over the south east the Tory government and local council haven't a clue how to respond or show any empathy. A series of awkward public statements and little practical action while chaos ensues.

Most useless and selfish group of people you could imagine irrepective of whether their leader is May, Cameron, Osborne, Gove, Johnson, Davis etc

Don't politicise it, lest people realise they've been voting against their own interests for a bunch of uncaring c***s for all these years.

Sorry gusset but that does sum you up,and brilliantly said pikester.

No it shows that people would rather shut down people who point out uncomfortable truths rather than address those truths.

The government were told about dangers in Tower blocks [Link] but chose to refuse it. Whether pointing this out makes me a lefty cund is irrelevant, it still shows the governments disregard for the people they are meant to represent.
