Who knows what he is worth? Is it 15m, 20m, 25m, 27m, 30m, more? If we get him for 30m and he scores 25 goals and that helps guide us to sixth place or higher does that mean we got him cheap? If we sign him and he tanks we will still get 25m for him next season of that I am pretty certain. Is anyone laughing at Chelsea for buying Batshuayi for 32.5m who has never set foot in the PL? Let's just face it - this is all madness and you either stand there screaming and pulling your hair out or just say 'what the heck' and go with the decisions the football club makes. I hope we sign him but then if we don't I will not lose any sleep over it. Personally I have the feeling this one is going to bite the dust but nothing other than a gut feel says that.....then again that could just be the dodgy Thai curry giving me grief!

Palace could well have sat tight and attempted to wait until the end of the window and pushed a hard bargain, but LFC know there is still basically 8 weeks to go until the window shuts. Its a catch 22 situation in that LFC will want the funds to invest on new players...CPFC want the player in pre-season training....the player will want some security...who flinches first? I am so pro this deal happening and think it is huge for us. This guy gets goals wherever he has been and he scored at LFC with very little first team action. Having him for those 2/3 games in August may be the difference of finishing 10th or 6th which next year is about £2m a place....so overall this becomes an educated gamble on going for it at £30m and securing more prize money or bargaining and ending up with a player later on in the window and costing that prize money.
We are over a barrel; but so far as barrels go, it's one of the best.

I think a signing of this size will be the final step to distance ourselves from any kind of "tin pot" moniker we have had in the past. The signing of Cabaye almost got us there and I also think the signings of Mandanda and Townsend have as well, but this would be the final slap in Lineker's smug jug eared coupon. People will even forget that Selhurst is a tad ragged.

Time to move forward together. |

Out of interest, are we trying to fight off any other bidder of around £30m? I mean, that has to work in our favour. We're not in a bidding war with anyone.

If Ross McCormack was worth 11 million in 2014, Benteke is definitely worth 30 million in todays market. Hope we get this one sorted. I'll be over the moon if we do.

With the tv deal we all knew fees and wages would inflate, 30 mill this year is the equivalent of 19 mill last year.

One things for sure, if this is happening it needs to go through before Sunday so he can gel with the team in America.

I don't think we're going to find another player of this sort of quality, with PL experience, who would even consider Palace for a microsecond. £27.5m rising to £32.5m with add-ons or a straight £30m? There's so little difference, in relative terms, we might as well get this done and dusted before the US tour. If he gets us in the top half next season he'll have paid back that extra £3m upfront in spades.
Bexley Dave Can you hear the Brighton sing? I can't hear a ******* thing! "The most arrogant, obnoxious bunch of deluded little sun tanned, loafer wearing mummy's boys I've ever had the misfortune of having to listen to" (Burnley forum) |

You've got me. I suppose I'm not used to seeing us spending on this magnitude and arguably in the past it hadn't worked when we did. Benteke is certainly a good player, the kind we need to take us forward. Still, I can't help but worry.
