I cant see anything that will cause Parrish to dispense with Roy. There is no money for players, no investors lined up. The yanks want to sell, but there are no buyers because Parrish as minority shareholder has a contract to continue as Chairman. No new majority shareholder would stand for that.
Its a stalemate. So, next season will be the same as this. Roy will keep us up, just about, doing the job that he will be paid to do.
Nothing will change while Parrish is chairman and the yanks own the majority shares.

The game at Everton was a great example of why we have played so negatively for most of the season. Against Everton we played quite "good football", we had more possession than them and we were forward thinking. However the defence couldn't cope when we lost the ball and Everton had a handful of excellent chances and could have got close to the Liverpool scoreline if they had taken their clear-cut chances. Most of the teams in the top half of the table would have taken more than one of the chances and we would have lost.

To stay up, with this team, we have to keep it tight, play a low block and be a bit negative. That is my opinion and clearly Roy's opinion. I would probably like a change of manager this Summer but much more importantly we need a major overhaul of the squad if we are to see a better league position next year. Any manager would struggle to get points with the players we have (another year older).

I think you're certainly right that most teams would have buried us with the chances Everton had (Richarlison was our best player), and that with what we've got, and are likely to have next year, a deep block continues to make most sense.

Generally, a defender is only as good as the team is compact. We passed it better last night because the team spread out when in possession, making the pitch bigger but increasing the gaps if we lost the ball. When Luka and Ayew did exactly that, it immediately led to a clear run at goal for their forwards.

Mind you, we also conceded just as many gilt edged chances whilst in our deep, compact block too! Every cross looked ridiculously dangerous, and every little through ball seemed to cut us open. None of that was down to us playing more openly, as we weren't doing so at those moments.

If Roy wants another year I think he will get it. The players coming out of contract will play their hearts out for him to get another contract as they know they are hardly likely to get get better contracts elsewhere due to their age.

This is a win, win for SP, he can sit tight knowing that we have at least another year in the Premiership. Last year was different and we went on a losing run which never ended, this time there is more to play for, for the players.

I can see a few players go and a few come in, but overall we will be stronger for it. A couple of months ago I could see Roy going at the end of the season, but it looks less likely in my own opinion.

I was and still am a Roy in till the end of the season, that hasn’t changed.

As you say I hope that SP is playing a canny game. Wilf and PVA want to leave but I would love for both of them to stay. The others who are out of contract need us more than we need them. If they can get better terms elsewhere then good luck.

I think this summer is a buyers market as clubs across Europe will be desperate to cut their wage bill. The deal for Mateta being a good example 18 month loan with an option to buy.

Agree with your assessment of the match. It was good for a change to watch an entertaining game and an open one which gladly Everton either had Guaita in the way or the final ball and finishing let them down. We had similar problems going forward and good even of won if our final ball had been better. Sadly, if we play as open against Chelsea they may get the four or five goals that Everton couldn’t :-(

Against Everton we looked vulnerable when we sat deep, but so did they in the last 20 minutes. Our best form of defence is attack, look how much space Jeff Schluup had in their 18 yard box. Roy went for it and it paid off, I thought Wilf had Keane on toast in the second half out wide and Ancelotti couldn’t solve that problem.

The fine lines of the Premiership. We could have lost by 3 or 4 goals and we would be calling for Roy's head this week.

There have been times this season when we have gone about games, in much the same way as we did in this game and come out conceding two ,three, four goals. Even in the Liverpool drubbing, we were trying to take the game to them . Yet most of the time the criticism is about negativity in our play. Without that bit of negativity we would be toast because we haven’t succeeded very often playing as we did the other night. To play that way regularly we have a lot of work to do yet.

If Roy stays for another year, then we really need to start looking at who is coming up from the Championship to see if there will at least 3 worse teams than us. We will looking down again rather upwards - 17th would be a successful season.

Norwich - good offensively, but again in the PL they would struggle to defend. Depends on whether they spend any money this time around.

Watford - They lost their best midfield player in Doucoure when they got relegated. Depends on whether they spend any money, otherwise I can only see a return to the Championship.

Play-offs.
Tricky one, none of the teams in the play off spots really don't have any form at the moment with Brentford drawing their last four and Swansea losing their last four. In actual fact the most in form team is Bournemouth in 7th.

We could have the same teams being promoted that went down last season.

My concern would be if Brentford went up. Any new team to the PL have an abundance of desire when coming into he PL. Look at Huddersfield, Hull, Sheffield Utd in previous seasons, where they play out of their skin in the 1st season, but it collapses in the 2nd season.

If this were the case, then there could be at least one relegation place to be filled.

If we had Hodgson again next season, with no money again and the same squad (only another year older). I would be very, very concerned.

And of the other PL clubs.
Newcastle - talk of another buy out this morning, depends on whether they stay in the PL this season I suspect.
Burnley - depends on whether Dyche stays
Wolves - Won't have another bad season especially when Jimenez returns
Southampton - depends on whether Ings stays or goes.
Brighton - definite contender unless they find a consistent goalscorer.
Fulham - if they stay up this season, depends on whether they make their loan signings permanent.

As said, it could well be another season of 20% possession, low shot rate, backs to the wall and looking down again. Can my boredom threshold take it again ?

I wouldn't be concerned; a hugely experienced coach with Palace never close to the relegation area under him. Add in Ray Lewington's influence and they are a very strong pairing especially vis a vis those who are being touted as suitable replacements. For me, it is remarkable to see the pair of them out on the training ground, day in day out in all weathers, working with a group of players who clearly respect them. Very little noise ever comes from the Palace squad and even Wilf seems to have been much quieter this year and done his talking on the pitch.
As to the availability of money, my impression is that it is slow and steady such as the money spent on Eze, Ferguson and Mateta; appropriate for a club of the size of Palace and it's revenue stream rather than big splurges as in the past re Benteke etc. Equally, even with loans and so called free transfers, nothing is ever really "free".
I acknowledge the football has not been great at times this season but the season is long and arduous - especially in times of nobody in the stadiums. I think back to games against Spurs, Everton at home and away, Leicester, Man Utd, West Ham and so on; all of those were occasions when the subs provided real options for change and the football was good. Equally, the move to 4-4-2 was designed to provide more of a goal threat albeit the number of goals conceded has risen - actually mainly from 5 really poor results - Liverpool, Chelsea, Man City, Spurs and Aston Villa - which saw 22 goals conceded.

I'd take 17th if we took the cups seriously. When we're never competing to do anything in the league other than stay up, we may as well try and win a cup.
