Maybe you do. That he is a donkey is enough for me. However, for a deeper analysis I came across this_ "As horses are known for their strength, donkeys are known for their stubbornness, and Benjamin stubbornly refuses to become enthusiastic about the rebellion. While all of his comrades delight in the prospect of a new, animal-governed world, Benjamin only remarks, "Donkeys live a long time. None of you has ever seen a dead donkey." While this reply puzzles the animals, the reader understands Benjamin's cynical yet not-unfounded point: In the initial moments of the rebellion, Animal Farm may seem a paradise, but in time it may come to be another form of the same tyranny at which they rebelled. Of course, Benjamin is proven right by the novel's end, and the only thing that he knows for sure — "Life would go on as it had always gone on — that is, badly" — proves to be a definitive remark about the animals' lives. Although pessimistic, he is a realist." As Animal Farm is a parody of the Russian revolution. As we aren't likely to face a revolution anytime soon there's not a lot to be learned from it, amusing though it is. If you find Animal Farm amusing then you have totally failed to understand the book, or are not very clever, or both.

Of course, you should learn from history, the better to avoid its mistakes. Of which there are many. Some of which are within my living memory, or related to me by my father, but probably not yours, and certainly not within that of many whose views you seem to share. I'll leave it to you to figure out what those lessons might be, although I anticipate very different conclusions to mine. So you are reduced to "My dad is better than your dad"! Who are you, Billy Bunter?

It's an interesting parody written in an entertaining way. What's amusing is the way that others seek to twist the parody to match their prejudices.

We owe a lot to my father's generation, of which it seems yours was a part. My father was on board the Prince of Wales when it was sunk by the Japanese. He survived but lost many friends.

My father grew cynical too, but for precisely the opposite reasons. He grew up in an age of British imperialism and served in the Royal Navy for many years. He came to understand that what was done when he was a boy was no longer relevant and that he had been cheated.

Edited by georgenorman (28 Mar 2023 4.55pm) Yeah, don't focus on those with power actually directing policy nationally and globally and their endless supply of cheer leading supplicants. Instead focus on those with no power who they don't like because hurty words. Edited by Stirlingsays (28 Mar 2023 5.45pm)

No further explanation is required. Just read my previous post. Your denial and arrogance is extraordinary. Truly breath taking, even when the truth is in your own post. You're like a child with a jam smeared face denying he ate the jam cake, literally no self aware ness.
