I thoroughly enjoyed his lecture. Indeed, his rabbit story was most amusing.

They certainly say it was, without mentioning how quickly the other developed countries overtook us. In December 2020 we were 4th in the world for % of population vaccinated, predictably given where much of the vaccine science was developed. From June 2021 the UK position started to drop and by this October we were out of the top 15. We are way below Chile, Uruguay and to my amazement Brazil

God help us if that were ever true. Stirlings have died in British wars going back many centuries, like most natives....I'm no Johnny come lately choosing where to lay his hat. This country needs that type like it needed the last twenty years. And as you know my father was a despatch rider (don rs had a poor survival rate) with the 8th army and my grandfather just about survived vimy ridge but his leg didn’t. So don’t come the great swinging d*ck with me, it won’t wash. And by the way my parents best mate was a Polish spitfire pilot and after the war they made a close friend of a German soldier and then later a Wehrmacht General. I watched the 66 World Cup in Bavaria. You don’t have to constantly look for a battle to be a Brit, quite the opposite. Edited by Mapletree (12 Dec 2022 10.08pm)

It does wash, while I won't criticise your past family for their service....I've read enough of your posts over the years to perhaps understand that their commitment isn't yours. You wouldn't give a crap about leaving this country, Mr Internationalist. Edited by Stirlingsays (12 Dec 2022 10.12pm)

Sigh. Have you never been abroad? It certainly appears so. I have left this country many many times. Then I come back. It’s called travel. This is such a great quote, you may recognise it Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime. I have already stated that I considered going abroad for a prolonged period but in discussion with my family decided against it. But SFW. Wherever I am, I’m croydonian. You want to use your twisted logic to say that because you are so scared of the world outside Wisbech you are a better person for cowering in your basement. You aren’t. You are not a proper Englishman if you don’t take an interest in the world outside. We are a nation born to bravely experiment and experience the challenges of the world, not just the Fens. Otherwise you may as well be French.

Seriously Maple, you aren't thick but you can come out with some silly rot sometimes. I've travelled my fair share....not had your Qatari/arab love in but I've been about. I don't buy your line, you're the British when you want to be type. And the worst criticism of all? That winter jacket wasn't water proof: scandal at that price.

You see, this is typical of you. You want the moon on a stick. You think you should wait for a fully waterproof down filled jacket. Meanwhile I am toasty warm in my nikwax impregnated down jacket, walking in the chilly beauty of Croydon. Note the skyline top right. Edited by Mapletree (13 Dec 2022 8.39pm) This is an evil, the like of which, the universe can barely comprehend, similar to the price of the Nikwax. I am currently growing a beard for facial warmth. This is a very cheap but an extremely slow and ineffective plan. But it irritates the missus so it at least provides some utility.

Nope, he's got you bang to rights there, you can't spend time waffling on about 'whataboutery' yourself and then choose to refer to 'hypocrisy' when you do it. I'm not sure how it's hypocrisy anyway, Farage isn't meant to be an unbiased journalist is he. The truth is that the story Farage was banging on about has now received extensive coverage, all of it highly critical. So his position is entirely hypocritical. He is just, as usual, making cheap points. Whether he is supposed to be an unbiased journalist or not, he most certainly isn't. I cannot abide watching him, and he is the biggest reason I won't watch that station. Every TV station ought to at least ensure their presenters maintain a degree of objectivity. Having Farage there is like having a constant barrage of Party political broadcasts. It's no better than Trump using Twitter to by-pass the media with his lies. The sooner they are off air the better.
For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally. |

The sooner they are off air the better. Well Trump or Farage are as entitled to express themselves as you are. No one makes you watch Farage or Trump do they. Paradoxically, in the case of Farage, your desire to see the Tories split would mean that you'd have to wish him well in his media efforts to gain support. Your solution is in your own hands, just don't watch them. Edited by Stirlingsays (14 Dec 2022 12.01am)
