Too extreme My point is that he appears to be always looking for an opportunity to do so, and when one arises, he takes it. If he made it his no1 reason for being that would be both impractical, tank his economy and probably his position and also start WWIII It's part of his agenda. Not the sole agenda. Two very different things He's not coming for anyone, really. Just looking to exploit opportunities to bang the imperialist drum and nick a few sq miles of soviet territory back when he can. Keeps the strongman thing alive, and he's not got much else to cling to now. I remember back in the nineties when the relationship with Putin was different and essentially what has occurred between Russia and Nato is the product of political decisions made then. I certainly reject this notion of Putin as the Genghis Khan figure that the western media portray and....like I said, the threat level has to be connected to the practical realities of the Russian military and what is realistic both in holding ground and what his BRIC's backers would support. I don't think that's been done at all in an all out media and political effort to rally support for the decisions that have brought us here.....well to the edge of a nuclear tension where one mistake probably sees all of us dying. I found Tulsi Gabbard commentary on some of the reasons for this quite accurate myself and she's been closer to power than most....aside from the fact she's eye candy to look at. I can't say we have much agreement in this area nor on the idea that we would have been here under Trump. However, I appreciate the discussion. Edited by Stirlingsays (13 Oct 2022 8.10pm)

Edited by Stirlingsays (13 Oct 2022 8.10pm) Fair enough He’s aged badly like all men who cling to power. Paranoia and a need to leave a significant legacy will be burning strong. That and in my interpretation he’s not a particularly complex individual. When power was new to him he may have been more open, that was some time ago. Ultimately yes I agree that it takes two to get us to this situation but in no way is he some sort of saint and this is all the fault of the west. Both ‘sides’ are culpable. It is also important to note that only one side is threatening escalation and the nuclear option. I wonder who is more interested in resolution - I doubt it’s Putin. And I doubt he has the word ‘concession’ at the forefront of his mind because of what that would then mean for him. We’re past the he said she said and the whys of how we got here - what matters now is how this plays out. And as I see it both sides will need to be in a position to accept concessions - I think we’ve got a long way to go before that sort of chat starts happening. But I think that’s where we will end up. That or he’ll get topped from inside. The longer this drags on the more plausible it gets. On a topical note Adam Curtis has a new series out today on Russia, 85-99. Not everyone’s cup of tea, too abstract for some, but will be watching it. Edited by SW19 CPFC (13 Oct 2022 8.31pm)

Would you be happy with a Russian puppet government installed?

I have looked at the EU Parliament's own website and found nothing. I have Googled it and guess what, the only return is the post above! So where does it come from?
