I watched enough to get the drift of the claims. Conspiracy theorists are well known for being able to make 2 + 2 = 10. Or edit things to tell the story they want to tell.

More importantly I watched the events unfold live at the time, from Trump's speech, the march to the Capital and then the mob trying to get in. Many news broadcasters were there. That wasn't either staged or edited. That was real and violent.

I have also read the explanations of why some of the footage released by Carlson appears relatively benign. Without the ability to deploy sufficient resource to forcibly and safely eject the mob the priority was to delay until the Senators and the staff could be removed to a place of safety. Tactics were employed to try to persuade some of the less determined rioters to persuade others that they had made their point and to leave. They were trying to defuse the situation and avoid violence. The video uses selected pieces to tell a fake narrative.

Too many people would have to be lying for what is claimed to be true, to possibly be true. Too many people who are known to have been involved have pleaded guilty.

It might fool the gullible. It doesn't fool me.

Not those I saw live. I learned a lesson during 9/11. I happened to be working at home that day and was alerted by an office based colleague that something was going on in New York and was asked to turn on my TV and keep them updated. There was live coverage from several broadcasters being carried on UK TV. I watched the 2nd plane fly into the tower. I watched things that were edited out of repeats, because they were too awful. I watched the towers collapse. It was all too real. That though didn't stop people constructing conspiracy theories that it was all fake, the towers had been blown up by the US government, that no plane impact could account for it, with detailed calculations of the strength of the steel etc etc. These were all put to me by a bunch of US ex pats in the Philippines just a year or two later. They were totally convinced they were right and got very angry if anyone disagreed. It was the first time I had ever heard such things, but regrettably, not the last.

The same seems to be happening with the riot.

Just goes to prove how enterprising people will find ways of monetising every situation.

Alex Jones has done it for years. Others are following in his footsteps and spreading conspiracy theories via videos, whilst asking people to "subscribe", so they can continue to tell the "truth".

People have always been gullible. Others have always exploited them. Only the methods have changed. Del Boy would be proud.
