The unfortunate reality is that the poor would suffer more if they did....then again they are going to anyway. Sadly they won't squeal at all. They are closely aligned to any government and will simply have a quiet word. Any sanctions will be symbolic and pain free for the City.

I have no idea whether it's true or not but it's come from someone high up in a biotech company but I can't vouch for its authenticity. I hope it's not true but there's rumour that Putin's suffering from cancer. If true, what's he got to lose? We're all in the firing line of whatever he wants to leave as his legacy. Same, Hrolf has been dead on with this. Credit where its due.

This is an obvious problem for cohesion....but hey. Most people don't know much about Ukraine or its history, nor know or care about vested interests. It's an easy job for the media to paint pictures that omit anything nuanced. They write the 'light and dark, good and evil' song and the listeners sing along. It's a hole you're dug yourself, there will be no back and forth about it, here or over DM. I'll bring your diversion back to the topic at hand. If you end up with you trying to turn this Russian situation into another ten pager about how terrible ethnic diversity is, when that's at best one dimension of this, you will be guided back on track. I'll say precisely what I want to say...what you think about it will make approximately no difference. If you don't like what I say post at someone else. There is an very real ethnic component to this crises, however wider specific debates or personal discussion away from Ukraine were not my aim and if that's what you think you are wrong.

Yeah Stirling but read the post you're responding to. EU are worse than Russia. Discuss. Western Europe is dying from old age and a replacement by young men from beyond its borders. The EU has presided over the death of Europe. Northern Italy, Germany, thornton heath, etc Edited by PalazioVecchio (24 Feb 2022 4.03pm)

It looks like everyone wanted a kind of conflict. It distracts Western populations from the recent 5hlt governance we've endured. When this gets really heavy, we may see a boycott of the Russian F1 GP, or banning Russian teams from the World Cup and Olympics. Meanwhile, other big players sit back and see if there are any takings. India, pakistan, Gulf states, china and of course insurgent terrorist groups. Inflation in the UK is going to be extremely harsh, especially for fuel/power. Edited by Forest Hillbilly (24 Feb 2022 4.06pm)

I don't defend the Russian invasion of Ukraine....I don't defend the destruction of innocent lives. East Ukraine is a very complex situation and that would be a long long post but I think other means are and were available. Edited by Stirlingsays (24 Feb 2022 4.06pm)
